I am getting ready to open a dedicated server for a hosting company, but what comes after that? How do I get clients? I am currently a reseller, but I do not have a merchant account and I feel it is effecting my sales. The person over me says to wait until I have more clients than I need to pay for it. So what should I do? It would cost me about $1,500 to start up. That includes merchant account, control panel, as well as the server for 3 months (plus the setup fees)
Any advice?
Well, let's see. You say you are ready to open your own company, but I don't think you are.
You need to have a plan in place BEFORE starting a company. If you don't know how to get clients, or how to get a merchant account, then how do you expect to run a business.
You should do your research before starting a business.
Now, with that said, you need to ask yourself a few questions:
1. Do you know how to maintain the server?
2. Do you have enough clients to offset the cost?
3. Do you have good tech support?
Please don't take this as discouragement. We wish you the best of luck in your new endeavor.

If you don't have the client base yet to at least cover the cost of a server stick with reselling until you build up more.
Also gives you the time to research things like a merchant account and marketing plans.
Remember: No one plans to fail, they just fail to plan. :)
