View Full Version : NAC the Best ofr Europe?
Blikje 08-31-2002, 08:34 AM Hi,
I have been reading some good comments about the NAC datacenter, and what interested me the most was the fact that they are connected to a London backbone, giving higher speeds to Europe.
SO is NAC the best atacenter available (not considering the very expensive Exodus one) for Europeans?

Tazzman 08-31-2002, 08:42 AM I've seen very good speed to Europe from Globalcompass in Atlanta too. They're only one short hop away from a transatlantic line I believe. Ping from the Netherlands to my server there is about 93 ms.

Wow that's low, considering the fact that on quiet times in the Netherlands (mostly at night when I actually should sleep :D) a ping to a really good connected (and therefore very expensive server) server got me about 20-40 ms.

BiGWill 08-31-2002, 12:57 PM yep, NAC is a very good alternative for european hosting clients .... though there are also others with good speed/ping times on the east-coast.
greets,
Tazzman 08-31-2002, 02:16 PM 40 ms from the Netherland to the USA (happy now I corrected it? ;) )? Very impressive. Transatlantic pings are usually between 100 and 200 ms...
90 ms would be good enough to run a gameserver on it though.
Just pinged NAC from the same server I pinged Globalcompass. The pings are nearly identical (though the NAC ping is just a measily 3 ms faster, 97 ms vs 94 ms). Both beat the far more costly rackspace hands down though, which comes in at 125 ms, but that's probably because the ping went to their Houston datacenter :)
I'd still like to know the name of this 40 ms transatlantic ping company...
Best geographical place for a transatlantic server would probably be Washington, as that's where the pipe enter the US.
mdrussell 08-31-2002, 02:54 PM NAC peers directly with LINX which is certainly an advantage for European based internet users.
skylab 08-31-2002, 04:42 PM i have VERY good times on my east coast sprint lines (90 - 110 during day) and i do ok to my chicago cogent (130 - 150) from vienna, austria.
nac is good for me also as is east coast yipes.

Actually the Netherlands are in Europe...
Aussie Bob 09-01-2002, 07:08 AM We have 3 servers in NAC and get comments from our clients in Europe that the speeds are great. NAC = :agree:

Yes, there are several Nether Lands located in Europe, each having it's own rack in the Europe DataCenter. It is possible that you get higher pings from lower level-of-technology Nether Lands (We call them Friesen and Limlammers).
Just kidding :D It just sounds stupid that it is pronounced "The Netherlands ARE" while it is still one country (That is becasue the Netherlands used to be seperated *boring*). But you're right, we are in Europe and Europe is proud of us (although they don't want anyone to one that :D)

JDMundo 09-01-2002, 10:06 AM Anyone know what companies with dedicated servers are at these NAC and Globalcompass dc's?
Tazzman 09-01-2002, 10:41 AM I got my Globalcompass server through serverhost.com, though I'd contact Jeffrey Kehe directly (he hangs out on these boards) for a quote as the pricing listed on their site is on the expensive side...
BiGWill 09-01-2002, 06:20 PM they (serverhost) are running a special which is listed in the special offer forum ... should take a look there.
greets,
jayglate 09-01-2002, 06:51 PM You mean what companies sell ded's out of NAC?
