View Full Version : Who stole the design?

So I checked out the administration area AND client area of Swift Panel today and noticed that they have eerily similar designs and design features. So I was just curious who came up with the design first? OR maybe I'm missing something and this is a free design available somewhere?

Just curious is all..

What are the two websites?

I think he is referring to SwiftPanel (googling shows the demo here: http://demo.swiftpanel.com/admin/).

It looks like WHMCS (tables, graphs, overall setup) but not sure if anything was actually stolen from WHMCS.

It's got a LOT of elements of the WHMCS design. The front-end/client area has some similarities also. I'm just curious who had the design first, or if SwiftPanel was another of Matt's endeavors or what..

I doubt SwiftPanel is owned by Matt. That would really surprise me looking at the whois info.

You are right, a lot of elements are similar but I'm not sure if anything was actual stolen (code, images, etc).

I don't know. If you dig deeper into the administration panel of swift panel, some things are absolutely identical to WHMCS. For example, the drop down menu - The code is identical. The graphs on the admin homepage - Identical. That's the reason I am asking here. Maybe it's just a very inspired design and that's all.

I just saw SwiftPanel praised about 5 times tonight on WHT by the same person, took a look, and the first thing I noticed was the glaring similarities to WHMCS.

This sure looks stolen to me as they haven't asked our permission to use the design or coding elements from WHMCS. Swift Panel is not in any way related to WHMCS and yet looking at the demo, you wouldn't be blamed for thinking it is - just on a quick look I can see they have the same login error, menus, graph images and tab based options.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Quite a lot of things ripped then. Do you think they are using some of your code in the backend (not sure how they would have got it?).

It seems sort of odd that they would pull a stunt like that, considering it could hurt their reputation and view from the public eye.

They aren't using anything that you can't get from a simple Right Click > View Source in your browser as with any HTML code.

Certainly agree with you that it's an odd thing to do, especially given how many people know and use WHMCS. Will Mulligan appears to be the "Owner & Coder" according to the site so will try and make contact.

Good luck! I hope everything gets resolved, it's a shame these kind of things happen.

Edit: Just saw the post above... that's a bit, unprofessional.

Matt, how are you so sure about that? VPSByte does have a point... It's possible that they are stealing your backend code too. :)

By the way, I can't login to their demo....

I think stole is a harsh word... As a someone who owns a license to WHMCS, I built a game panel with the same basic layout (custom html code, but same basic layout, still the code will be similar since there is only so many ways to code menu tabs) to use for my own personal use.... but when I saw others wanted to use it... I starting proividing it to them. My panel is 100% free currently so I certainly didn't gain anything at all. As as far as stealing anything... Everything is custom except their percentage bar pics... which if they don't want me to use, I will be happy to replace. I have been recommending WHMCS to many of my users and and even its link on the main website as the recommended billing system.

I contacted Matt and I will happily replace anything he wants. No harm done...

It would be nice if a moderator could delete this thread since it is spreading rumors that SWIFT Panel stole the backend code from WHMCS. Or is that allowed here?

ThatScriptGuy

There are no rumors going on here Will. What is being said is that you are using some of the WHMCS FRONT END code and images, which is completely true. Your drop down menus are identical code-wise, and your graph images came from WHMCS. There really isn't any denying it.

I didn't deny it.. I said I was working with WHMCS if they wanted me to change anything... But most the things said in the posts are false... so it hurts SWIFT Panel if you don't delete them

If you've gone ahead and stolen (that's essentially what it is, you've waited until you've been called out about it to contact WHMCS) from WHMCS, then the users of this forum deserve to know.

You can use the helpdesk to contact a moderator and ask them to delete this thread. But I can tell you their answer, No!

At the end of the day you at the very least are using some of whmcs graphics (by your own admission), so this thread is valid.

You stole the frontend, you know you did -- and you are trying to get the mods to delete a thread so you can continue lieing about it? I think not.

How can you steal the coding, use it for yourself without permission and insist it is OK?

On a side note: love how you no longer have a working admin demo to try and cover your tracks :P

Most things? I did speculate that possibly the backend of your panel was using some of WHMCS code, this has not been confirmed by anyone. I am not saying you did or your didn't, but you can't claim it is false information when there is no data to prove otherwise. Everything else in this thread is true, you stole a majority of their front-end design.

If it hurts "SwiftPanel", then why did you steal the code in the first place? You surely thought someone would recognize it?

I'm not trying to get into any kind of argument here, but it's quite simple actually. WHT staff will most likely not remove this thread.

Im all for an inspired design. But to be fair anyone with half a brain wouldnt do a complete cut and paste job from a product you compete with. If simply just for reason to offer something different.

It stands to reason that the backend is also "lifted" as the front end isnt a design by a xerox

Yes, it is. When I posted this thread, the whois info had Will Mulligan as the registrant.

Whois history shows it as protected since inception in June, but Will was heavily promoting it earlier and admits to having 'created' it.

ThatScriptGuy

I know that the whois history shows it as protected for the entirety of its registration, which is odd, because before I posted this thread, I looked at the whois to see if it was registered by Matt, and it had his name on the record, no matter what the whois history says.
