View Full Version : Need a new Reseller - Suggestions Please
Hi i would like a new reseller any suggestions would be much appreciated. I would need to host atleast 20 domains with cpanel.
I have been having down time, timeouts and also my websites have been hacked several times through the server and also i have found a few exploits on the server which i have pointed out to my current web host... not only that they themselves have been hacked and defaced in the past months...
I dont think it would be appropriate to name them.. however they are somewhat big and reputable.. but their service is ok and their support staff struggle to understand english which is where i am having to break my english down for them to understand.
Anyways i dont want any offers from anybody but some really good suggestions to go with.. i want uptime which is important and no timeouts or overselling or a weak server.
The price must be reasonable.
Cheers
P.S: Should i consider VPS? But i would want to resell and also cPanel and possibly host a shoutcast server.
thx
Jay H 07-26-2008, 06:26 PM What kind of pricing, space and bandwidth are you looking for? I would suggest making a list of requirements and then checking the Offers forum for providers. Once you've found a few providers, research them and pick the best one for your website.
One thing to note, going VPS does have its advantages over a typical reseller account. For one, you have 'root' access to your account and you're able to sell reseller accounts, not just shared hosting. Other nice advantages is the ability to install whatever software you please, allowing you to further tailor your service to your customers.
Good luck on your search! :)
DATARTIM 07-26-2008, 06:41 PM As jay said space, bandwidth and pricing will help get you some good recommendations.
Regards going for a vps, if you "need" root access or want to run a shoutcast server and don't want a dedicated then sure, but most good reseller packages will outperfom a vps. At least thats been my experience.

Ahh thanks for that! Well... im after 8-10gb space and at minimum 60gb of bandwidth per month to share across all shared accounts. Also WHM Panel to manage the accounts of course.
My current host had given me a dedicated IP with my domain registered with them....
Now most of my clients are pointing to my nameserver ns1/ns2 mydomain.com... if i were to move... im thinking the transfer of domain will take atleast a week or so... and in that space i will need to get my clients to point to the ip address in the mean time... am i correct?

I see thanks for that, thats something my current hosts had failed to mention when i asked about shoutcast... but at most im expecting no more than 20 listeners on the shoutcast server. Also i see typicall VPS start with 128 ram and sometimes 256.. will that be sufficient enough to run up to 15 sites, a few being forums with 15-20 members online at any time plus the shoutcast server with a handfull of people on it? Or will i need more ram?
Also with VPS will i need to install all reseller features and things like that as it will be a new step for me if things are not already setup.
xalixo 07-26-2008, 08:31 PM Well dont go for gazzin networks for sure. You will die. Literally.
Honey dont go for "cheap" services. Trust me! You get what you pay for.
The best reseller company i know, at least by reputation and word of mouth, is Hostgator.com. Am there and they are very good. But not "cheap".

Hmm hostgator ive heard mixed reviews about and not particularly keen.... hmmm

I'd recommend you transfer your site files and then update the IP's of your two name servers to point to your new host. You don't have to transfer the domain to a new registrar if you don't want to. You can keep the domain at your current registrar and just update the name server IP's.
You are guaranteed a no hassle relocation if you have the accounts on both servers and just wait on DNS propagation.

For RAM, it depends on what control panel software (if any) you are using. If you're looking into a cPanel VPS, I'd recommend at least a 384 MB Guaranteed RAM VPS for your needs.
As for reseller features, it depends on what you're speaking of. Most of the reseller "features" are installed by default, when you install the control panel. Third party software (such as RVSkin, RVSiteBuilder, LiteSpeed, etc.) you would need to license separately from your VPS and then either install it or have it installed.
Some providers will perform an initial setup and configuration of your VPS for you, however, it's something you will want to check on if you want to go the VPS route.

I see so my current host will just update the ip addresses on my domain.com and all my users will automatically go to the new servers. My host provided the domain free when i signed up, i hope they will be able to change the ip addresses without charge. But of course i understand for a transfer there maye be a charge.

Ok i am very new to VPS and have made a thread here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?p=5232086)regarding it.
I am currently hosting 15+ domains.. usually they are websites i design and host for clients... and i doubt "any" of them use cPanel even though i provide it to them. However i will be hitting the mainstream and im sure people will request cPanel.
So from the best of your knowledge if i wanted to resell with or without cPanel what will i need installed on the VPS? I dont want to pay ££££ for licenses for many different things.. i want to keep it very simple. I want to be able to create db's, and configure/setup mail and also create ftp accounts etc.. basically most features you'd expect in cPanel.
Also i want something similar or the same as WHM where i am able to manage different accounts, change password, allocate space bandwidth... or can i do this with another free third party software?
Now the above are mandatory features im after... then i will consider shoutcast.. but thats left for another day after i get the web hosting sorted.
Thanks
DATARTIM 07-27-2008, 01:51 PM Reading through it does sound like your best option is a reseller account, you get all the software you need and cpanel, otherwise your going to need a managed vps with cpanel and for shoutcast at least 384mb ram so your looking at well over $40 a month.
Which I think would still underperform compared to a good reseller, the only drawback with getting a reseller would be no shoutcast.

Agreed. cPanel is a big resource consumer so 384mb won't do much. If you plan on getting cPanel and a reseller isn't enough then I would get a dedicated server instead.

Yes very true i agree also. I think i can sacrifice shoutcast... that throws VPS out the window.
So going back to my initial question.. any good resellers with good uptime and can handle traffic and dosent get hacked and can cope with any DDOS? It would be ideal to have it in the UK if not dont mind the US. Ideally i'd be interested in spending $10-$15/pm but if things have to stretch a little bit for service and 24/7 support then $20 should be my maximum.
I have already received PM's, if you have a suggestion then please do make it here and not via pm :) Cheers
DATARTIM 07-27-2008, 03:09 PM Well your budget is reasonable and although no host can cope with any or every level of DDOS, I'd think there are plenty of hosts here that could provide what your looking for, I'd suggest checking out the offers section.
PremiumHost 07-27-2008, 07:16 PM Also i want something similar or the same as WHM where i am able to manage different accounts, change password, allocate space bandwidth... or can i do this with another free third party software?
Directadmin offer features to manage server and hosting accounts but you have to consider which control panel your customers want to use.
If you want to get a VPS with cpanel, get one with at least 512MB Ram.
Otherwise there's no room for expansion.
VolkswagenGolfGTI 07-28-2008, 11:10 AM I'll give a shout for PremiumResller.. check them out on www.premiumreseller.com.
Pretty good prices and so far, they've offered a good service.

512 Mb is just the minimum requirement. It would be always good, if you have some RAM extra.
B-H - Bob 07-28-2008, 01:56 PM You may want to ty hostgator, they have hundreds of positive reviews here on wht.
FastNext 07-29-2008, 08:57 AM I have already received PM's, if you have a suggestion then please do make it here and not via pm :) Cheers
Hosters are not allowed to post offers to you in the thread.
As for your requirements, they are quite reasonable, so it won't be very hard to find suitable hosting. Good luck ;)

Wait until you need support from PremiumReseller. They're rude, and they suck. Just because the lights are on, doesn't mean every thing's fine, and you don't have to go to school to learn that about computers and networking.
Otherwise I would agree with you on their service.

Kmpoaquests 08-08-2008, 08:59 PM I personally suggest hostmonster to my clients

Hostmonster doesn't offer reseller accounts. They only offer a shared hosting account.
VolkswagenGolfGTI 08-11-2008, 01:22 PM With 20 domains you might want to try a VPS, as this will then provide you with some flexibility regarding possible shoutcast servers..
If you want to stick to a reseller, you could try PremiumReseller.com.
They are pretty good, i've used them for quite some time.
