Hi folks,

I'm working on a social network site right now, but with a limited set of features and geared toward a certain set of people. All of the data (mostly text) is stored inside a MySQL dabatase.

Are there any open source, free solutions out there that will help me search the data in my database without me having to write the code to actually search the db?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Did you try using phpmyadmin?

I meant searching the website content for users via a search box.

Maybe I should rephrase the question:

Hi folks,

I need to give users of a site the ability to search the site. All of the searchable data is in an MySQL database. It's all varchar or int for the most part.

Without me writing the search engine code for the site, is there any plug-in play hardware or software solution that will minimize the code modification on my part and/or make the installation of the search engine easy?

I'm running this in a LAMP environment.

Thanks for the link kcackler! I think this might be what I've been looking for.

We've used Sphinx on a large vbulletin installation and it has dramatically decreased loads caused by search.
