Used as a disparaging term for a Canadian, especially a French Canadian. 2. A small or medium-sized hardy horse, common in Canada. 3. US slang for Canadians in general and French Canadians in particular 3 seems to be the MOST common meaning :) Red Circle Web Hosting 03-17-2001, 11:14 PM that was Captain Canuck right? gthorley 03-18-2001, 12:19 AM Go Leafs Go Red Circle Web Hosting 03-18-2001, 12:20 AM I Live very close to toronto and i am ashamed at the leafs! St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Red Circle Web Hosting 03-19-2001, 04:58 PM Tabarnack is a bad religous word towards god. Do you know the tabernackle?in the chruch?Well You get the point! Racin' Rob 03-20-2001, 09:01 AM A French swear word. ')' 03-20-2001, 01:14 PM I am Canadian, born in Toronto, and am well aware of the insult regarding Tabernak. At the same time, as a teenager my family moved to New Bedford, Mass. where the sir name of our next door neighbour was Tabernak. Just another case of, "things aren't aways as they seem". ')' Website Rob 03-21-2001, 09:40 AM Although I am not (nor speak) French, my understanding is that the "slur" involves two words -- not one. Using the word "tabernak" by itself might not apply. On the other hand, I can give you a whole run-down, on the Jack Schitt family. :D (whoops: seems I mis-spelled the Family name, the first time) [Edited by Website Rob on 03-21-2001 at 08:47 AM] webfors 03-21-2001, 09:48 AM I had NO idea that tabernack is a bad word. :D I just remember my grand-mère saying it 20+ times a day. Grand-mère would never swear!! Never!! It must mean something else :D [Edited by tabernack on 03-21-2001 at 09:03 AM] Racin' Rob 03-21-2001, 05:42 PM Originally posted by Website Rob Although I am not (nor speak) French, my understanding is that the "slur" involves two words -- not one. I believe that would be colist, or something like that. Something to do with the Catholic church I think. But that's all I know. I'm not Catholic, or a religious person, so forgive me for my ignorance. Exbodyguard 03-21-2001, 08:38 PM Prince Edward Island here. And whats wrong with our potatoes anyway?? Félix C.Courtemanche 03-21-2001, 11:43 PM It's quite interesting... English people (canada @ usa) swear with words related to sexuality mostly. Not sure if you are familiar with the term "Akashik Records" but that is the only time I hear the word used.
