Hostpacket's been running a big SCAM, and they've left their customers high & dry while running off with their money.

It's an absolute meltdown, and all the customers are RIOTING about the downtime.

It looks like they've gone bankrupt and left their customers screwed.

Check out what the customers are saying in their forum :

Check it out QUICK, before the Server running the Forum has the plug pulled on it too !!!

I was with hostpacket.. now I can't even get to the files of the people I was hosting. Luckily, I have a half-week-old backup.

The Fourm is down.

I am not sure I would go so far as to say scam. They paid lots of money for that web site with all the flash and they seemed to be on top of things until just recently. I understand they are having some server issues with RackShack. May just be bad planning and bad implementation on their part, but I highly doubt they were or are out to scam anyone.

That said it is bad they do not have some sort of off data center backup contact for their customers. That is something every host should provide for, either on his servers in different data centers or space on someone elses server for a back up forum and help desk.

They must be switching DNS or something, because when I goto http://www.hostpacket.net/ I get a apache place holder.

I can't get the forum to come up at all.

Goto http://www.amegaproxy.com and try entering the url there and you will see what I mean.

yes, i'm sick of the downtime, but i'm also sick of stuff like this that makes webmasters look immature and constantly ill tempered.

I should hope that WHT is a place for the more mature webmasters to communicate. Webmasters who are in the IT field and understand what hostpacket may be going through right now.

I second what you say here "Chickenfart"

This malicious poster "Hospacket BS"Total Newbie", creates an account just to make this post! Doesn't even have the balls to use his regular aka.

<<MOD EDIT: This has been altered>>

he is web-weenie .

Making claims like Scam, rioting, bankrupt, is malicious and a flaming post. The only evidence is customer complaints and downtime.

Although I'm not happy about down time, and not being informed by Hostpacket as to the problems. I was previously completely a satisfied customer.

I intend to start searching for a new host service, but I am willing to give Hostpacket a chance to explain themselves. If I had a business on Hostpacket then I am sure I would be screaming, but in a professional manner.

I'm sure if we were in a bar and "Hostpacket BS" said the same stuff to a stranger named "hostpacket.net" "hostpacket bs" would get punched in the mouth. So try and be civil, cut out the BS, quit trying to drum up business by running down your competiton, and let the chips fall as they may!

Most people will do what serves them the best, so let things take their course........

Looks to me like they could be moving to another server.

They said free month of hosting for everyone
That is if you have backed up your sites because the hard disk was formatted

I checked all their machines and didn't find my username on any of them. I was in server #1. I would have stayed if they (a) communicated well with us, and (b) be clever enough not to have my data erased (some e-mails are priceless).

It sounds like hostpacket is having some major issues over there.

Always keep backups of critical information to be safe. Having important info lost is about the worst thing that can happen.

What I want to know is...
ARE WE GOING TO GET REFUNDS?
Did you get a refund?

Their forum works again, I've read something about a cancelled RS server .. I am not a customer there and don't have the time to read all the posts, but it seems they are busy with it (and didn't run away (yet))....

Let's hope it works out nicely for the customers. . . .

Thank GOD I moved all my files the day before all this went down.

As for the angry people, sure they went about it the wrong way but they have every right to be angry.

The Hostpacket customers were totally left in the dark about what was going on and now most have lost their entire sites.
