View Full Version : Trying to find the right host for my website...

Hello!

I am currently being hosted with ImHosted on a friend's account, but I've decided to go ahead and get my own host.

I am totally new to all this since my friend is the one taking care of my website until now.

I have a personal website, with lots of pictures-content, but not many visitors.

I like my current host (ImHosted) for these reasons (nothing technical, as I didn't manage that side until now):
-Easy to manage your website with Hostman XP, CPanel looks nice.
-Speed of my website.

I would like a host that is friendly with newbies. I would need a lot of support and have lots of questions.

I want a reliable host, but not too expensive either, since this is only a personal website.

I use approximately this on my current host, and I think my website will grow, so I will need more in the future:
-150 MB Disk space
-150 MB Bandwith usage this month

So, any offers? And people, who should I stay away from? Any tips? Thanks.

Hey, Try posting in the web hosting request forums. You would get a load of offers in there.

For what you need, and use, I would have to suggest the following hosts who have been around for a while and have a proven track record:

1. VenturesOnline.com - Amazing Support
2. HostCulture.com - Great people, and offer more space and bandwidth
3. Hmmm

If you use the REQUESTS forum, be aware that you will get MANY responses from MANY hosts. I would have to say a VAST MAJORITY have not been around for 6 months, and seeing you are looking to move, you most consider whether you are willing to move yet again if one of these newer hosts goes under. Use the SEARCH function on these forums before you go with anybody, and let us know who you decide to go with.

Quick Reminder: Ive been with 8+ posts, the cheapest or near cheapest one has NEVER survived in its original form more than 6 months. Just something to think about.

Thanks for your replies!
It's going to take me forever to find the right host to go with... Each company I hear about all have something almost ok, but still doesn't fit what I need!
Hostculture.com looks good... But it's the same price as Myacen.com.
What about them, are they good?
And Dynastyhost also looked cheap, but are they good too?
*wishes someone could just solve this puzzle for her*

Hostculture.com is great. If I wasnt already hosted with VenturesOnline I would be with them. They have been around for a while too, and really give you a good deal of *quality* resources for an amazing price. I would go ahead and try them and see how you like 'em, Ive never heard a negative comment about them, and on this forum that is nothing short of a miracle.

Not ONE bad thing? Now that's hard to believe...
But alright, thanks, I'll keep that in mind! :)

You might want to consider dot5hosting since your needs are very small at this time..........They do have custom plans and you can always upgrade at a later date..Their staff is knowledgable and prompt in their replies..I have 6 sites with them and am very satisfied .I have been with them for a couple of months now and have nothing negative to say about their service or uptime. And you will find they are very easy to do business with

Good Luck in your search.

Wow!
dot5hosting's custom package is neat! Any other hosts offer this kind of thing?
How long have dot5hosting been around?

I wanted to move to dot5, but they do not have cpanel. Only ensim. :(

Is Ensim bad?
What's the difference with Cpanel?
Why choose one over the other?

I think ensim is great. Service and support A+ perfect. Yes well now i have 2 accounts with them 1 custom and 1 dot1 package.

With a site with a lot of pictures (150mb worth), is the BW usage only 150mb for the month of August?

About the bandwith usage, that's what my current host says, I think!
Why, is it abnormal?

Looking over your original post more closely, I now see that you indicated that you didn't have very many visitors. 150mb would not be abnormal for a low traffic site.

Phew :)
I'm not abnormal!! :P

RUN FAR AWAY from Imhosted ... and tell your friend the same ;)

But you're right their Cpanel was easy to navigate . Hostman was a waste of time .

Why not try these guys : www.lightningservers.com
Andrew always seems to be arround when needed .

Good luck with whoever you choose .

I wasn't thinking of staying there anyways.. Taking way too long to get my 'pre-sale' emails answered!
