I am wondering if someone could reccomend some free (or close to free) software for monitoring the status of a dedicated server. I have one that pings the server, but I want something that might be able to check the status of the HTTP server, FTP server, and other services...

Can anyone make a reccomendation?

Any reccomendations for a Windows system? Until I get my networking problems straightened out on my VMWare Linux box... I can't handle Linux... :(

I'm sorry... I misread its description...

That _would_ work since it is server-side... and the server is Linux... but I was looking more along the lines of client-side remote monitoring in case it crashes...

You could check out:

http://www.8th-wonder.net/ware.asp

Scroll down to Eye in the Sky. There's a 14 day trial to download (and an update right below it). I think the cost is very minimal to register it after that.

Cheers

Or check out http://www.alertsite.com for something completely outsourced.

Or if you want something just for a little while until you get your other server fixed up, I can monitor your server remotely. Email me to work something out.

netsaint is a pain to install.

Ive used websitepulse and its pretty c00l. might want to try that. Another good one is alertsite.com as stated above...

I've personally used netsaint and big brother (http://www.bb4.com). Both have worked quite well.

My University uses bb4 to monitor its servers as well.
