View Full Version : Dedicated Server for only $85/month!
Hostnix 08-30-2002, 11:18 AM Hostnix now offers FreeBSD virtual dedicated servers for only $85/mo! For a limited time there is no setup fee! We can have your server setup in 2 hours or less!
We have 3 OC-12 links from 3 different providers -- Genuity, Sprint and XO.
Each server is on a high-power mainframe class system with at least 4 processors and at least 4gb of memory.
Your VDS comes with 2GB disk storage, 1 IP, full root access, a whopping 40GB of bandwidth and loads of other stuff I probably forgot to mention!
This offer is so new it isn't even on our website yet, you must email info@hostnix.com for details!
If interested please contact over email, no replies will be made to posts here!
I must say the topic is a bit misleading , as you state dedicated server , and offer virtual dedicated server .
just my thoughts.
chuckt101 08-30-2002, 01:45 PM yes, misleading
Acronym BOY 08-30-2002, 01:51 PM I agree, I think this should go in shared hosting offers because you do share the server with other people.
Hostnix 08-30-2002, 01:55 PM While it is on server w/ other instances it is still it's own dedicated server for whomever has the account, is it not?
Is there a definition for what a dedicated server is? ... and just because it's a virtual dedicated server it isn't a dedicated server at all?

Yes, and the industry at large is well aware of it.

Correct. The actual industry-accepted terms for what you're offering are "Virtual Private Server" or "Virtual Dedicated Server".
Hostnix 08-30-2002, 02:11 PM Ok... what what excatly makes it a VPS or a VDS? The sole fact that it is an instance of a much larger machine?
Hostnix 08-30-2002, 02:14 PM ...and just to ellaborte....
Yes, I know the definition of a "Dedicated Server" per se, my point was simply just because it's a "Virtual Dedicated Server" does that mean it's excluded from the standard defination of "Dedicated Server". In other words, does it not fit into the industry standard definition of "Dedicated Server" because it contains the word "Virtual"?

Not because it contains the word "virtual", but because it is virtual.
Anyway, I apologize for interrupting the thread. I just realized this is the advertising forum.
ckpeter 08-30-2002, 03:17 PM I think the question of whether VPS or VDS belongs in dedicated or shared offer forum is debatable. However, the title is truly misleading. When you say dedicated server, people expect to see "real" dedicated server, not "virtual" or "private" dedicated server. Whether this belongs in the shared offer forum is one thing, but it for sure should have included VDS or VPS in the subject line.

Hostnix 08-30-2002, 03:23 PM My apologies for post in the wrong forum and leaving out the word "Virtual" in the title.
Mods: Please delete this thread/post and I will repost in the correct forum.
Sorry.

Is virtual reality, in truth reality? No.
In the same way a virtual dedidcated server, isnt really dedicated.
Virtual means it simulates something without actually being what it simulates.
