NEVER SEND SPAM. IT IS BAD.
Anyone spot the ironic bit in that email?

How about when you register a domain at networksolutions and once your email is listed for a domain records' contact, you get SPAMMED by register.com? I never used register.com and that made me never want to... Although NetworkSolutions never has done much to stop SPAMMER's from grabbing emails from their database.

Shoot, I got a spam the other day that said they could help generate traffic to my website. That I need not waste money on bulk email.
I thought that was a bit of irony.

Well.. When I registered my domain with 000domains, I got a spam from Verio. Actually, they called me. I find it pretty much annoying dont you think?
Yes, SPAM is annoying, but snailmail spam is even more annoying. At least all you have to do is hit delete.
But, not I have to fill up my garbage with junk, then take it out.

Karl,
I got that same email myself actually. I went as far as filling in the blanks, but by the time i got to adding plans and what-not I just gave up... I can't even count how many times I've gone through through host listing sites adding this and that - after a while it just gets too much.

Hi Karl,
I sincerely apologize for wasting your time. We found your company in a web host directory and since, we offer the same service for free, we thought it might be useful to inform you about HostWhois. You are not on our mailing list and would never receive anymore mails from us.
Now, about the ironic bit (NEVER SEND SPAM. IT IS BAD). That line was appended by the software we used to mail you.
Sorry once again and have a nice day.
Sincerely,
Ashish Marathe

Ashish,
I'm not too upset myself. Personally I think hosting directories can be a good thing (if run honestly) as it gives hosts a free way to get their name up in lights as it were. I think some of us are a little jaded by the bulk of email sent to the company though. As a group who has to get exposure, that same exposure does alert the vultures of a chance to send unwanted mail.
Oddly enough a while ago I was sent e-mail from a hosting company offering a special deal if I signed up straight away. Their plans were smaller, and more expensive, and the site was as slow as jello. :) Needless to say I didn't take them up on the offer. I'm pretty sure they didn't actually look at my site either or they would have noticed pretty quick that hosting plans are something I don't need to buy *lol*

Greg - I get the same sorts of emails too.
Ashish - I'm not upset about it, I just thought it was a little ironic.
