View Full Version : .me with Godaddy
Xspirit 07-17-2008, 12:39 PM Hi Guys,
I just registered several of the new .me domains with GoDaddy.com and 50 minutes later godaddy are telling me its been registered, and they are taking it back from me.
Sad to see godaddy not providing the fast service they are known for. The fact that it was already registered should have been there when I requested it.
Anyone else having these issues?
That's just normal. The registry opened today and GoDaddy just takes the orders without checking the domains as the registry would response to slowly.
Same reports for GoDaddy and some other registrars when dotAsia opened.
redmeds 07-17-2008, 05:32 PM When you did the domain search for available domains what service did you use?
Did you do the availability check through godaddy?
Lubeca 07-17-2008, 06:39 PM Bear in mind that .me is a ccTLD (Montenegro).
Comparing ccTLD registration processes with GTLD ones is like comparing apples with oranges.
maflynn 07-17-2008, 10:36 PM is it me (sorry pun intended) but most of the dictionary words are already registered. I wouldn't be surprised if squatters snagged most of the typical words.
hostforsaleco 07-17-2008, 10:55 PM Most common words would definitely be registered quickly.
Xspirit 07-18-2008, 09:30 AM All the points above are true, but they should have put somewhere on their signup page that just because it says available, doesn't mean its really available.
Ahh well, it must be just me (pun intended :stickout: )
GoDaddy.com was the worse place to register .me domains.
onlinenic.com & moniker.com are the same price and only approved unregistered domains.
I had a friend that spent $200 yesterday and only ended up with 1 domain name. Waiting for godaddy to refund his money now.

Do you know if Go Daddy is submitting the registrations slowly or in batches? Or were the domains simply taken by others already (but perhaps without Go Daddy checking / being able to check for that)?

I'm not real sure.. I'm guessing they were taking orders and submitting them within the hour as my friend stayed around the house for a half hour, then went into town and came back and had an email saying he only registered 1 domain as the others were taken.
There was a major delay in registering .me domains with godaddy.com. I registered all mine with onlinenic.com and then moniker.com and both become active as soon as I submitted the order.
111111z 07-19-2008, 09:53 AM what a waste of time registered 12
got
0 after it was all done....
all refunded
CH-Shaun 07-19-2008, 12:12 PM My .me domain is secured.
serennau 07-19-2008, 12:54 PM I got two and I bought them both with Dynadot. It didn't take long. I had to keep refreshing the order page, but after half an hour, I got them. That was in the first hour of the .me registry being open on thursday.
othellotech 07-19-2008, 01:24 PM the .me whois servers are (often) failing to respond - some of the registrars liek GD are taking that as a sign the domain is available and letting you order, some, like enom, that the domain is taken (even when its not) and stopping you ordering.
These kind of things often occur in a smash-and-grab FCFs situation - .info was a disaster at launch, .bizx i cant recall as i though the tld was a joke, .me's proved no better
the few I grabbed from onlinenic and then I ended up using moniker were live within seconds after submitting my order. (around Thursday 9:05am MST they were live) which were 5 minutes after .me went live.
domainer_guy 07-21-2008, 04:22 PM Netfirms is also registering .me domains...however they are more expensive than GoDaddy.
Keep in mind that a lot of domains are being held back to be auctioned off in the future -- probably alot of dictionary words and clever .me phrases.
I have a feeling .me will go the way of .name and not have much name recognition value but perhaps speculators will be able to cash in on the hype in the next few months.
No, I don't think so domainer_guy,
I think .me will not be as lame as .name. I prefer to compare it with .asia, the value is definitely much higher than .name where the domain has reached tens of thousands of dollars.
Did you ever heard .name making that kind of cash? Just as I thought.
othellotech 07-21-2008, 07:38 PM I think .me will not be as lame as .name
No, it'll be even lamer than .name
Other than a few "choice" .me phrases for "amusing" urls its a pointless TLD marketing excercise.
At least it's not being sold almost exclusively by spams, scams and dodgy pyramid schemes like .ws ...

I was wondering the same thing. I almost pulled the trigger on a couple of domain names that are available for .me but not at com/net/org I was having difficult time to justify it, especially I'm pretty content with what I already have.
steveoregon 07-22-2008, 10:54 PM Everyone understands that pre-registration was taking place long before July 17th? This was cut and pasted from godaddy's website (about a month ago):
Sunrise4/28/08 - 5/20/08
(includes Pre-Registration) Trademark holders may submit requests for .ME domains. After the sunrise period closes, domain names requested by multiple trademark-holders will be auctioned between the requesting parties.
Landrush5/6/08 - 6/26/08
(includes Pre-Registration) Anyone may apply for a .ME domain name during this period. After Landrush closes, domain names requested by multiple parties will be auctioned between the requesting parties.
Open Registration 7/17/08 Domains issued on a first-come first-served basis.
I paid $100 dollars for two years to apply for a name during the "landrush" period (well worth it to me). I would have bid even more before giving up. I was almost certain I would have to bid against others, but didn't. GOT IT. The name showed up in my godaddy control panel as "pending" for about two weeks (until the 17th).
Here's what I never understood. Let's say that four other people from four other registrars also applied for the same name during the landrush period. Then how would the four registrars have coordinated the bidding between them? I never did see how that would have worked.
bizcorp 07-23-2008, 06:28 AM Goddady does have a large controlling over the .me extension IMHO.
infernalcreed 07-23-2008, 07:28 AM thats right bizcorp, I have heard that GoDaddy is a technical partner with .ME Registry. They obviously will have lower pricing compared to other Registrars.
