Hi all,

I am wanting to create a social networking site for a band community but i was just wondering what you would use to create it in either Joomla or Drupal,

I would the site to be able to have html profile editing available to all clients does joomla or drupal allow this?

any opions would be great

Jake.

Drupal is the more customizable of the two, but has a higher learning curve. Personally, I'd pick Drupal — Joomla felt too locked in for me the last time I used it.

Drupal is far more versatile, very well thought out, fast and extremely customizable. It comes with a price: a steeper learning curve, but after reading for a few hours you'll understand it's jargon and then it's a very cool and powerful CMS.

That's not allowed here on WHT, wicksy. If you receive a PM now, somebody's ignoring the rules.

Drupal is more of a portal/community based cms. I do use it for non community sites but the Drupal category structure fits portal/comunity sites better.

I would have to say Joomla! I have used it for several years and love it. It has about 3000 different extensions including 1 for communities and 1 for specifically bands i.e events.

I have only used Drupal myself. If you are experienced with PHP make sure to use the latest 6.x version, other wise go with 5.7 which has a lot more user contributed modules available.

Drupal is more customizable but Joomla is more easy to use, and installation

Again it really depends on your comfort level. Joomla is definitely more user friendly. I know your not considering it, but you may also want to give ClearSpace (http://www.jivesoftware.com/), by JIVE, a look.

I prefer JOOMLA, I've used it on most of my websites and have been satisfied with it so far

Either one will do good depending on your needs. If you are looking for better look, Joomla will be fine. If you are looking for versatile clean coding, Drupal will be fine.

I'm really happy with Joomla, and it's easy to get the hang of, especially if you're not familiar with web development.

We've done some great things with Joomla. Both are kind of complex, but Joomla seems to be designed better, has a large community, is cleaner, and has an extensive wealth of templates out there you can pluginplay. One thing I think people ignore when it comes to joomla sites is web hosting.

I've used godaddy and have some problems getting the SEO components working right. I switched to adehosting.com for joomla web hosting and so far so good with a couple of my web sites.

Drupal, as well I found it easier to use than Joomla. But maybe that's because I don't like being very restricted. Plus with Drupal you can do what every want a lot easier (theme and features).

Honestly? Neither. Both of these products are so incredibly bloated and unfocused. They're also based on Mambo, which was rotten to start with. I gave up with both of them (after several years) and now use CMS Made Simple instead. My clients love the uncluttered focus on content, which means they're up and running very quickly with a very gentle learning curve.

Assuming you're set on Joomla/Drupal, I would say, unless you've got unlimited free time to indulge an urge to tinker -- i.e. web development is your hobby, not your business -- Joomla is the better of the two. You'll be up and running more quickly and personal productivity is "somewhat" more focused.

"Drupaled" could very well be used as an adjective to describe software that has been developed by people with no cohesive vision and no idea about end-users. ;)

Joomla but not Drupal

Actually its not different for all cms systems. You create a template and layout the navigation system and then add the content.

If you are planning on having an e-commerce web site Drupal will be a good choice to use along with Ubercart. Ubercart is developing bequite a nice shopping cart system.
