View Full Version : Payment Methods
Bikespot 07-14-2008, 11:00 PM This has probably been discussed a few times.
I'm looking around for some good payment methods. I'm not saying they arn't all good , but ones that may be useful for us.
We currently only have paypal to offer for payment.
Are there any others you would recommend. I know of a lot , but some are just not very useful in the way of use using those funds. Another thing to consider is what people want to use when they go buy for example , if you dont have paypal , you may loose that client.
Syd_M 07-14-2008, 11:20 PM I've been looking at 2Checkout, and while I haven't used them, their services look good. They also accept payments via PayPal, which is a bonus. Not sure how they compare to PayPal (unless someone here has tried both and can elaborate), though they make for a good alternative.
Personally, other than services like PayPal and 2CO, having a merchant account like CDG Commerce or Authorize.net is a good way of building customer trust. I'm sure there are people who've heard the PayPal horror stories and are leery of trusting their credit cards with them. For those customers, a company with a merchant account would likely be more appealing.
teachforjune-Scott 07-15-2008, 01:04 AM We also use google checkout. They're a little cheaper than paypal.
cycomholdings 07-15-2008, 08:21 AM We offer cash and wire transfer :)
XFactorServers 07-15-2008, 08:27 AM I love GoogleCheckout! Although you need to be in the United States or United Kingdom.
acebeat 07-15-2008, 11:40 AM Authorize.net is the best, you can accept all credit cards with it
frosman 07-15-2008, 01:26 PM Paypal is usefull in USA and Europe, but if you have clients in, for example, South America, you will lose lots of clients, because there are problems to have an account and the credit card is the best option.

How have your customers responded to the offering? Are there many who use Google Checkout to pay you?

teachforjune-Scott 07-15-2008, 04:46 PM I have people who prefer paypal and others who prefer google. Google has a better name than paypal, but they work similarly. You do need to have a ssl cert if you want to integrate with their api and they don't offer a debit card,, but transfers from google to my bank account takes no more than 2 business days once the transaction has cleared.
Aren't there restrictions on how your payment routines must function with Google Checkout?
teachforjune-Scott 07-15-2008, 06:13 PM I don't get much into the api as I use whmcs and they have a module for google checkout. I set it up through whmcs and it was easy and I've had no problems.
Bikespot 07-16-2008, 11:46 PM I checked out 2CO , their fees are to much. 50$ set up fee , 0.45$ per transaction , plus 5.5% . The only way i could see us using that is if we add a fee onto using that method.
I think Google checkout will be added , i just need to figure out the SSL ticket that needs to be made for it to work with WHMCS.
What about AlertPay? Anyone ever try using that?

I'm currently using Alertpay and it's pretty good. Although, they charge a small fee for depositing your money into your bank account. Their receiving money fee is less than Paypal though I believe.
teachforjune-Scott 07-17-2008, 12:53 AM How else do you get your money with alertpay other than bank transfer? Do they have a debit card like paypal?

Alertpay is a pretty new/small company so they don't offer any credit or debit cards yet.
eTalkup 07-17-2008, 08:27 PM I recommmend using Paypal. It has powerful APIs which allows you to autoamte the billing process and save your time.

We already are using Paypal.
I think we will be adding AlertPay.
Any other recommendations?
Rageki-John 07-19-2008, 03:40 AM You could also offer money order. I'm offering Western Union money order and I usually receive the check in a few days.
teachforjune-Scott 07-19-2008, 03:43 AM High amount of fraud with money orders other than US Postal Money Orders. Most US businesses would rather take a personal check as they are more easily verifiable.

We require US Postal Service Money Orders.
