View Full Version : BusrtNET..hmmmmm
I just called BurstNET today (didnt catch the persons name who I talked to) and was asking them about thier NOC, I asked them if they have always housed thier own servers and they said yes but were in the process of moving them to a new facility, I couldnt really get any straight answers, does anyone here have any knowledge of them? whats thier deal? do they really operate thier own NOC or are they just bull**itting me?
Thanks much
Dylan 03-15-2001, 10:38 PM If you do a search on this forum, you'll find many posts about them - but - I wouldn't waste my time searching and reading about them - just move on and find someone else.
Hey Dylan,
I have done searches and a few things have popped up on them but nothing regarding who thier NOC is or where or if they have thier own employees who staff it, thats really all I want to know
BurstNET 03-15-2001, 11:38 PM Dylan: It is not proper to state derogatory statements against your competitors. Concentrate on marketing your own firm, not compromising your business ethics and attacking other hosting companys.
ee-o: BurstNET™ has always owned all of our servers and equipment, dating back to almost 5 years ago. Up until about 3-4 months ago we colocated our machines in the VDI data center, of which we have always been the largest co-location client, as well as one of the oldest at their data centers(s). We were actually the only hosting company to physically assist VDI with moving out of their old data center into the new current one. 3-4 months ago we began putting all new servers in our sales/support office here in Bloomsburg PA USA. We have a T1 here that was installed for testing purposes of the backbone we were planning on selecting for our new data center. In April 2001 BurstNET™ will be opening a new state of the art data center in Scranton PA USA, the 40th largest metro area in the US.
DS3 service will be provided by Sprint, and shortly followed up by a 2nd DS3 within approx 60 days, and a 3rd provider in approx 6 months. We are currently considering AT&T, Global Crossing, and Cable & Wireless for our 2nd & 3rd lines, since these backbones had physical POPs in Scranton. All of our servers and equipment will be moved from the VDI data center to the new BurstNET™ owned facility after a short testing period of the new DS3 connectivity.
PS..in case anyone cares, we are moving out of the VDI data center due to growth reasons...VDI has provided us with excellent service over the years, and due to a mutually beneficial relationship both firms have grown to their present sizes and market positions. BurstNET™ is just ready to move to the next level.

Mbarb 03-15-2001, 11:52 PM Will the servers currently at VDI be moved to the new NOC. If you are planning to move them how much downtime will be involved in the physical move and will DNS records have to updated or will you take the IP's with you??
BurstNET 03-16-2001, 12:13 AM The servers at VDI will be moved to the new data center..all in one shot. This will be a scheduled event, and all clients will receive atleast 7-10 days notice. The physical drive from VDI (Clifton NJ) to the new BurstNET™ data center (Scranton PA) is only 1.5 hours. Coupled on top of loading and unloading time, the whole move should take less than 4 hours.
We will be changing IPs on all BurstNET™ servers at VDI to new ones recently received from ARIN. The change will occur atleast 5-7 days prior to the move, allowing plenty of time for DNS propagation. During the physical move of the servers, these new IPs will be changed to point from the VDI data center to the new BurstNET™ data center.
Regardless of the move to the new data center, BurstNET™ was still planning on switching IPs to new blocks from ARIN. We are just doing it now to get it all done in one shot.

Mbarb 03-16-2001, 12:19 AM Thanks for the information...
Thanks for clearing it up for me Sean, I wish It was you who I talked to on the phone, the guy who I did talk to was cool but kind of a joker so I couldnt really tell if he was telling the truth or what..
Something Im confused about, I checked VDIs website and they charge 150 per month to house co-located servers plus the fees for CP and IP's comes to about $224 per month yet you guys rent dedicated servers for $150 per month......my question is where are the $150/month servers located that you are currently offering? If at VDI how can they be so cheap, If somewhere else, where?
Thanks
DHWWnet 03-16-2001, 12:50 AM eeo you ask to many questions bro :) its a simple math like
burstnet gets a very good deal in colo prices b/c they are one of vdi's biggest customers. think of it as buying something wholesale.

BurstNET 03-16-2001, 01:10 AM New servers (ones that are not using large amount of bandwidth...ie 20GB of bandwidth per month or less) are bwing put in our Sales/Support office here in PA on T1 connectivity. They will be moved to the new data center in Scranton PA about 1-2 weeks after we move the VDI equipment/servers in. No rush on these, everything running beyond smooth here. New customers that do not want to be put here (because they need large bandwidth amount usually), we are allowing the choice to be put at VDI temporarily until the new data center is opened. Most clients have been opting to be set up here though, with only a few high end machines being put at VDI due to bandwidth requirements.
