Why is it when a host goes down for a couple of hours every starts posting on this forum. Give them a break, 2 hours won't hurt anything.

Sometimes a host just cannot prevent going down. Be it a HDD failure or a hacker.

It's like blaming the weather man for getting it wrong. He didnt know any better. And you DO pay him by watching his show.

Sometimes we just can't help things. And when they happen, they happen.

It just depends on what you're doing at the time it goes down. How would you like to be doing a presentation with your site when it goes down? :o I can understand the frustration.

In this month of August alone, Valcato has been down for more than 3 different occations. All downtime are over a period of 24 hours.

No warning whatsoever and as usual, the gave the lame excuse "it's not our fault". I've sent an email requesting for a explaination, and until now, no email from them as yet (2 days ago).

I'm definately switching my host. Don't host with them, as far as I'm concerned...

You may find the similar problem with other hosts also. Do they guarantee you?

Downtime is just not acceptable at all for a host even 1 minute... This is expecially important when a customers livelihood depends on thier site being up 24/7..... Me personally i make almost as much money on my other web business that i host on my own servers, so if i even experience one second of downtime on my own servers i feel like killing someone. I feel like someone just stole money out of my pocket.

Hosting companies should take any means possible to ensure that they have as minimal downtime as possible... that means having proper backups, or having sometype of raid system... also most importantly making sure they have quality bandwith with excellent redundancy.... I am not trying to knock on any hosts but....but how many times have you seen yahoo.com have downtime?...I am also not saying discount hosts should have the uptime yahoo.com has, but we can get very close to it.....

The webhosting biz is not as profitable as it seems expecially if you spend the money to cover all of your bases with great hardware and quality bandwith... sure you can make a ton of cash with one dedicated server with no backups, no raid....on cogent line; but then you are doing a disservice to your customers. Its kinda like amtrak putting customers on an elevator without backup brakes.... You are not even sure if your harddrive will crash and burn tomorrow...your not really a true host, just someone trying to engage in a get rich quick skeem...Kudos to all of the hosts out there that are actually taking the time to secure thier customers, and realize the importance of what they are doing.

Not doing this as a rant against valcato (i think they are good guys)....well maybe to the $1.00 a year hosts...

The reseller server went down around 2:45 (cst) Thursday. Both the reseller server and the single hosting server are stilldown as of 8:15 (cst) Friday. Last night one of the admins was up on MSM, but would not reply to messages. E- Mails are delivered, but not answered.

Valcato gives a 99.5% uptime guarantee and so do I, but this will cost me customers for sure. Not so much because their sites are down, but because I can't tell them what's going on or when it might be fixed.

still down?

I know how you guys feel..

when my dedicated serve provider was down, i felt just as sad :(

So, just a minute ago one of the server admins comes on line on MSM, I send him a question on whats going on. He says,"If anyone asks me about servers, I block them. And HE DID.

No information, no consideration for customers. What do I tell my people. The server admin is having a bad day. He just doesn't want to talk about it....

Now that's what I call customer service!!

If they actually come out and say that in public I don't think they will keep any respect... There at Nocster/Burst and I think if there's a fire over there we'd all know about it.

valcato you are a bunch of hypocrites..

everyone go to valcato.com and click on system status, it says: 99.76%..

oh really? with all the downtime you have had in the passed week? some kind of magic i guess...

It did not say when do they reset the uptime info. Maybe it is counted since the start of valcato, maybe it is for a week, no one knows. But I really don't care what they say on their homepage as long as my site is back up.

Ok, Status Report:

I first off want to say on behalf of everyone that is apart of Valcato Internet Services we are truely sorry for the downtime. We had a major problem with our Co Lo that was out of the hands of thema s well as us.

The Co Lo had a major storm in thre area knocking out most all of there internet services. As I have been told the Co Lo's main router was damaged this past Thursday in a horrible thunderstorm. A bolt of lighting jumped there circuit board and there surge protectors all the way to there router. This knocked out all of there internet service to all of there servers and clients. This unfortunately included us.

The router has now been replaced and reconfigured and things are now getting back to normal.

We are agiain deeply sorry for the downtime and too make up for this problem we are going to compensate all of our clients with a free package upgrade!! This means if you ahve a Value package, you will now have a start package, if you have a Start Package, you now have a Business Package, and if you have a Business Package you now have a Corporate Package. If you have a corporate package we will work something out with you on a individual basis.

For our resellers, we have not decided as of right now what wea re going to do, but we are going to compensate you as well. Probably what we will do is upgrade your bandwidth, increase your space, or increase your number of clients, or something like that. We will let you know in the next few hours what we decide.

Again we greatly apologize and we hope we can make this up to everyone somehow.

Thanks,

Liam Gladdy

They could be down a week out of the year and have almost a 99% uptime ;)

They are down now. I hope they come back. A friend who visits the site told me it was down.

I just get a blank page when I visit their site. So the server doesn't seem to be down, just nothing on their site.

Are they not at Nocster/burst ? I mean the last time it was some Story about router and it not being there fault untill sean from Burst came in and said that wasn't so

Guess he burst there bubble. Seriously though what colo are they in. If its a big one you'd think we'd all hear about it.
