I plan to get a server with 10Mbps capped bandwidth but I need some questions in mind:

- How much bandwidth/traffics can it handle in real life? I know ideally, it should be able to transfer up to 3200 GB/month, but with traffics surges up and down unexpectedly, how much traffics do you think it can handle?

- What happens if the server is hit by 200 people at the same time downloading a 5 MB file? Can it handle the traffics or will some people get a "server busy" message? Will it affect the download speed for those users?

Is it a 386 with 2MB of RAM? We need to know the type of content and server specs. Bandwidth is just one possible bottleneck.

Sorry, let's assume it's a P3 1 Ghz with 512 MB RAM and 40 GB HD 7200 rpm server with very low CGI, PHP and MySQL activities.

You can have at least 1500GB if not much cgi or php.

I am pushing 5mb/s without cgi and php in my server, still have room to grow.

Yes it should with no problem
Once we did real streamin of 500 People at 56k (4.5KB/sec per user ave)
I dont see any problem handling that much load. Also it depend if u r doing streamin or doing http download. It shouldbe a big problem
One thing keep in mind u better have more ram for more downloads. :)

The bandwidth would be mostly used for http downloads. Do you think I'd need more RAM or it's already enough?
