I was wondering what type of "leased line" would be the minimum to startup up a good data center, not spectacular good and reliable -- t1, t3, OC24, etc...

If anyone also has any expierence setting up a DC with DSL, ISDN (wow) I'd like to hear it.

TIA

I'd say two BGP4 routed T3's would be suffice for a host. Of course they don't have to be full, They could be fractional. The BGP is for redaundancy just incase one link goes down the other can pickup without any downtime.

FYI: I don't think there is no such thing as an OC-24 (AFAIK)...:stickout You can take a look at: http://bandwidth.com/tools/knowledgeBase?page=icView&icid=150&collectionId=6 for information on all the different types of optical carrier pipes. And here: http://web.archive.org/web/20010801171600/http://www.bandwidth.com/index.html (bottom of page)

DSL is crap for hosting. Don't even think about it. Well come to think of it, if you can get your hands on SDSL then it won't be that bad, but I myself would prefer getting a true, clear link to my ISP.

Someone had to correct me because I thought it was OC-25 :) So a couple of t3 (or are they known as DS3s???) would suffice? Not bad as I always thought a data center needed its on Fiber(Fibre) optic feed...

DS-3's are fiber optic (45mbps)
T3's are copper (45mbps)

Esscentially they are the same

Are you aware of the cost of a t3? i believe 1 full t3 can be as much as $25,000 a month

Nope... WOW does that come with installation and equipment

So no one would run a DC over a t1 any longer? I remember back in the days when (5-6 years ago :( ) people bragged about their DCs hooked up by redundant t1s :( Is a t1 just good for running one site?

Do a search for oc-24 http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=OC-24 from the list I think there is an OC-24. That is what I meant, nothing more nothing less!
