Do you offer windows?!

Linux Only with LVD support. (Allows you to run a full linux GUI from your windows box. Very similar to terminal services and RDP in Windows.)

Are you serious? No Mail Server?

Are you serious? No Mail Server?

Why would I not be serious? If you are running a mail server for your organization i.e. one that terminates mail for your company. Then you can request a waiver otherwise, I have little interest or time in providing a platform for spammers or those that resell to spammers. And then end up stuck cleaning up the mess they make. Been there done that. Not interested in doing it any more.

Is the $55 offer still on? Its gone from your site...

Also I take it the "No mail servers" rule is for SMTP/outgoing mail only? There would be no reason to block mail coming into the system.

Thanks

Rick-Xolot:

There are still a few servers left from this class. Please use the above link to sign-up if interested. The mail ports are blocked both ways. I can make changes to support inbound connections to a specific box if necessary.

So, you're saying that anyone who offer / hosts email on their server (a VERY VERY common practice) is automatically a spammer? wow! I'm sorry to say this, but you're very naive. EVERY website, and website owner use email to communicate. But, if this is your policy, then it's your choice. Just don't expect someone who's serious about their businesses to host with you.

1. There's a lot of people who are serious about their business who host with me.

2. It's not like the average customer doesn't have 100's of hosts to choose from therefore, I fail to see the scandal in being clear and up-front about what a customer can and cannot expect from the service.

3. This might come as a surprise to you but not everyone who purchases a server needs to host email. Here's a small and incomplete list of other possibilities (FTP servers, Game Servers, Web Servers, Application Servers, Name Servers, Database Servers Development servers etc.)

4. Maybe you didn't read it and if you did, perhaps you didn't understand it but I'll repeat what I posted before "...If you are running a mail server for your organization i.e. one that terminates mail for your company. Then you can request a waiver..."

5. Most of the people who want email, want it for the purpose of reselling web hosting for which I think that I was more than clear on that point: "...I have little interest or time in providing a platform for spammers or those that RESELL TO SPAMMERS."

6. I might be a lot of things in your opinion but "very naive" is something I am not. I've been doing this for a while now, which means that I have spent (wasted) time trying to get IPs removed from black lists because someone who purchased a server(s) from me decided to resell web hosting (I don't have a problem with that) to those business customers you speak about only to have a spammer slip-in and blast off 500,000+ emails.(Keep in mind this spammer wasn't a direct customer of mine) but the end result of this is the same for me (several days / hours trying to get the IP addresses removed from black lists.) Therefore, you might want to update your theory about who is naive.

7. I know that email is a central form of communications but what universal law states that you have to host your email on the same servers that run your other stuff? (see #6)

8. If you want to purchase a server from me I will sell you one. However, if you don't like my candid answers regarding my policies
(see #2)

sure, I can understand that you don't want to support the servers too much, but in the 7 years that I've been hosting (have a few dedicated servers, but looking for some bargains), I've never had problems with email & blacklisted IP's. And I know that some of my servers are pushing a few thousand emails per hour, since a lot of clients run email campaigns - BUT to opt-in clients only. On the rare occasion where we had some spam reports, the clients sorted it out immediately. Bottom line, I don't offer free hosting (common for spammers), and I don't bother supporting ppl who are not serious about their business websites.

I was interested in one of your servers, but this put me off, sorry.

SoftDux you've made yourself look like a bit of a fool. Everyone in this industry knows that spammers are a problem, and there are many thousands of hosts that do have separate mail servers.

Personally, I prefer to just set MX records up for Google Apps and use GMail, so a server like Lee's is perfect for my personal use.

Business wise, we source our servers direct from a DC, but even they couldn't beat Lee's plan.

If you cant add anything constructive to a post other than criticism then do us all a favor and dont post ridiculous comments.
