Never used any of these honestly.

You can add "webmin" to the list though.

zpanel and webmin are good options

I really depends what you need a control panel for. I tend to not like them in general, but for administering a server if you don't have command line experience then webmin is a good one. If you want to provide a control panel for end users thats a whole different story. I have never user zpanel. I would go with something commercial if you want to give contol panels to end users.

You should be able to find a host that offers either a control panel for free or for a small addon per month. Just look around.

I'd probably go with Webmin. LxAdmin is good too if your VPS provider offers it.

If you're planning to pay for control panel, I would recommend cpanel as it is more user friendly.

If you're looking for a free panel and if you have less than 40 domains, I would recommend lxadmin.

Webmin is pretty good.. That and directadmin which I believe are both still free!

DirectAdmin is not free, but pretty cheap and a great panel!
