View Full Version : Cheap, high quality Seattle colo
mpope 08-28-2002, 09:23 PM I have been trying to get some quality, but cheap colo space in Seattle for a while, but have not found anything! So, I am thinking about getting a rack in the westin building and offering cheap but quality colo space. Would anyone be interested in this?
Pricing would be as cheap as possible... $35/u and around $200/Mbps for high quality non-cogent bandwidth ? (UUNet, Global Crossing, AT&T, Aleron, NO COGENT) Or perhaps by the GB transferred $1.00 / Gig ? If it was by the gig, I'd probably want a 30GB commitment minimum (So starting at $65 for a 1u server).
Anyway, these prices are not completely determined yet, but let me know if you're interested. :D The more we can get on board in the beginning stages, the better we can negotiate with our providers. ;)

AntiSpamHosts 08-28-2002, 09:25 PM Wrong forum.
mpope 08-28-2002, 10:02 PM I don't think so... this would have to be posted in one of the advertising forums... One of the 'offers' forums, it fits more in the Dedicated servers forum than the shared webhosting forum, I don't think it would fit with all the webdesign offers in the 'related' forum... So I chose the Dedicated server special offers forum. Maybe I'm wrong, but i think this is the best place for it. :D
However, mods please feel free to move it!
Thanks!
A rack in the Westin building runs about $1,000 per month.
Bandwidth can be insanely expensive. You might want to check with InterNap, they are in ColoCenters and the price isn't bad.
mpope 08-28-2002, 10:49 PM Hello,
Actually, we've already fully priced out the westin building. :) We took a tour of ColoCenters and may be getting a rack directly from them. You are right, bandwidth is pretty expensive, but we have some things in the works to be able to buy in huge quantities, which would lower the price a bunch.
The prices I posted above are very 'do-able' in the westin building. We could be all setup and offering the above colocation pricing within a week, if we decided to do so. Anyway, I just thought I'd let you all know that this is a fairly solid offering (I'm not just saying "boy I'd sure like to..." ) :D
We were also thinking about offering something like 2U's and a 10Mbps unmetered port for $799 - $999. I think it's a pretty good deal but I'm not sure if many people are looking for that...
I do appreciate the comments though, so keep them coming! Let me know what you'd most like to see for a seattle area colo. :)
ColoCenters has a nice facility, don't they!
You should check about peering at SIX.
Out of curiosity, have you checked into FiberCloud or Avista Communications?
I noticed your website is on a server at FiberCloud.
mpope 08-29-2002, 12:44 AM Yes, it's very impressive! Especially when they show you the meet me room for the building. I was very impressed when Aaron (the sales director for colocenters) told me that if you write an email in the northwest, it has a 95% chance of traveling through that room. Simply Amazing!
Yes, we have a rack at FiberCloud. They are superb. I cannot say anything bad about them at all. I have been extremely happy with them, and will continue to do business with them for many years to come. Unfortunately their greatness comes at a price (Very expensive). But you get what you pay for! Not one second of downtime in the last 12 months. :) In fact, I think their network has not had any downtime at all since they implemented BGP in January of 2001. If you can afford it, you simply can't go wrong with FiberCloud.
clockwork 09-16-2002, 11:06 PM I think this thread needs some more responses *cough*
:)
So is there anyone or any companies who have racks at a Seattle colocation facility that are renting out by the U and charging by the GB?
