Howdy,

I don't know if this is the right forum but here goes.

My church has a basic website (www dot oakbrookconnect dot org)
I don't know who designed it or what system they used...

We/they want to have something either to add on or replace the current site that will allow the following features:

-A way for members to create an account and update their information (name, address, etc) so that the office staff can be notified any time something gets updated.

-A way that can be used to send out a newsletter type email if there are any important announcements.

-A calendar of events that can be setup with details on each event, links, etc.

-A way to list certain events that people can sign up for and to allow them to sign up through the website. Also a way to then take that data and get it into a spreadsheet, database, etc.

I know there are things like Joomba or Mambo but don't really know much about them or their requirements to know if they can do what we are looking for.

I have no problem customizing something if it's easy to do but don't even know where to start.

Any guidance or ideas would be great.

Thanks,
--Mike

Our church is using drupal for content management
http://saintwilliams.org

We have mailing list, events, audio, forums, etc ...

For registration and keep members information, we don't use it via webform.

I have a whole suite of custom church oriented web applications that I developed in classic Asp, they cover most of the things you are looking for. I was selling them for a while but since I'm in the process of building a whole new system based on .Net I'd be happy to give your church these older apps free of charge.

They're not something that an end-user can install, so it will require some technical ability up front. I'd be happy to help you set them up too if you don't mind it taking a little time. I have a backlog of development projects right now so I'd have to find a block of time to set aside for you guys.

Again, they are Asp applications, so they will require Windows hosting.

PM me if you're interested.

it looks like the website is hosted by windows.

Yeah I just saw that. Interesting setup too, the whole site seems to be based on a single Asp page serving up dynamic content based on a page ID passed as a querystring.

Fun stuff.

Was out of town for the weekend. Thanks for all the replies.

I had nothing to do with the current site and don't know how it was put together. However I'm an IT Support person so they asked if I knew anything about what they want.

Not sure if they want to replace the current site or just have a separate one for the extra stuff.

PM headed your way Snargle. Thanks for the offer.

HMm. Can't seem to send a PM. Can you let me know if you have a sample site of what you have so I could see how it looks and works and have the others at the church take a look at it as well?

Or even just screenshots and things to get a feel for how it would work.

Thanks.

Oops, forgot that you won't be able to PM until you've posted 10 messages. Go to the following url and leave me some contact info and I'll get back to you with some examples of the applications.
