Hello to everyone out there,

I am currently looking for a gameserver to host a Microsoft game made in 2001 called Freelancer with a modification or two. I most definatly need a dedicated box with a Windows Server platform due to some of the programs that run in the background of the server that are Windows only. As far as location of the server I am in a bit of a quandry involving that as I am trying to cater to both US and European players. I was thinkign New York perhaps?

We are moving from our current hosting because the lag is bad for even people who live within 200 miles of the server location. Potentially 60 people could connect to this server at a time but we usually run in the 20s or so. However less lag means more people would be attracted but with more people more lag... so its a vicious circle.

So far the company I am looking at is https://interserver.net/index.html As they seem to have the network to provide the bandwidth I need to keep the server running well enough. Optimistically I would hope to stay under 200 dollars a month as we survive on donations and my bank account. Really 150 is as much as I WANT to pay but if I felt assured that the server would run great I would spring for more.

I thank you all in advance for your help.

I would try ColoCrossing,
I have been with them for about a year now and they are great.

Have you had a tech take a look inside the server during peak times. Are you certain your lag is latency and not performance? What are you using presently to power your game server - what is the server config?

I can have one of my techs take a look at your server. No charge. Send me a private message and I'll get you in touch with someone you can contact when you are experiencing the "lag".
