I have a .NET map software setup and need some more server power. Currently it's sitting on reliablesite.net and a one man stress test (simply clicking a lot) brings CPU usage up enough to have the host auto-shutdown the account for a few minutes. I have no experience with .NET hosting so I hope you guys have good recommendations.

Criteria:

- It doesn't have to be a powerhouse since this map is the only computationally intense app. I believe CPU is used mostly on heavy image processing and many AJAX calls (think Google Maps)
- PHP/MySQL/url rewrite required for other blogging software
- We would like this to be managed. There is no dedicated admin available
- No clustered environment. The caching mechanism in the app does not play well with this
- Need MS SQL as well
- Located in the US

I think these are the most important points. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

What is your budget?

Not sure, would like to see different ranges. I would like to stay under $100/month.

You can opt for a box with Dual Xeon processor (2.8 GHz) + 2 GB RAM for your requirement. We have a customer running a similar application on the above mentioned box and it is giving him very good performance. However, your budget is pretty low when you are considering a Managed option. This would typically cost you around $200 - $250 per month. Also, keep in mind that you'll need SQL Server license which would cost you $70/mon (Workgroup edition) or $250/mon (Standard edition) in addition to the server cost.

Good luck!

Yikes. I don't think we need that much horsepower. If possible would like to see something like a VPS with 512MB RAM and upgrade if needed. Only one MS SQL database would be needed, a license for the entire SQL Server would be over kill. But then again I don't think there is a VPS that has specific DB options like this.

May be you should consider moving to a higher plan with more bandwidth. If that is not possible then the only option you have is to go for a dedicated server, which will cost you a lot. It is better to upgrade your package.
