Im glad it slowed down, for the economy to have kept goign the way it was, we were doomed for disaster.. CRego3D 03-14-2001, 10:13 PM Like the song goes .. Let it Slow, Let it Slow, Let it Slow ... humm .. or was it "Snow" ? ho well :D cbaker17 03-14-2001, 10:32 PM I am not a ho :) alpha 03-14-2001, 11:01 PM ho you? who ho? what ho? ho ho? you ho? ya ho yahoooooooooooo cool, you guys think thats how yahoo.com came about? :D ---------------ok, sorry... back to topic Im glad it slowed down, for the economy to have kept goign the way it was, we were doomed for disaster.. yea... but then again, Dow Jones dropped under 10,000 and nasdaq also falling to under 2,000 - stocks are falling out of the sky - hopefully won't be another 1929 JayC 03-14-2001, 11:37 PM Originally posted by alpha yea... but then again, Dow Jones dropped under 10,000 and nasdaq also falling to under 2,000 - stocks are falling out of the sky - hopefully won't be another 1929 But then again again, on the optimistic side, suppose it signals a recession (wait, really, this is the optimistic side!) -- there've been 10 recessions "officially" in the past 50 years, yet the Dow has shown an average increase of 13% per year over that period. If you're in the market for the long haul, I wouldn't get too worried. If you thought buying stocks was a get rich quick scheme, then you might worry. Or find a new fast money scheme: I hear running a web hosting business, for example, is a shortcut to getting rich. cbaker17 03-14-2001, 11:50 PM Yea exp. if you sign up a whole bunch of new clients and then close down shop :) DHWWnet 03-15-2001, 01:03 AM :emlaugh: webfors 03-15-2001, 09:42 AM Yep, my investments are definitely taking a beating right now. I'm not worried though, because like JayC mentioned, I'm in it for the long term and hiccups like this are inevitable. I'm actually thinking of doubling my investments right now since Mutual Fund prices are pretty low. I'll take the weekend to think about it. :) dektong 03-15-2001, 11:05 AM Stock market is really scarry... I almost put some investment when it was really hot, around the end of 1999. All the dotcom company and high tech company are now almost not worth 20% of what it was back then when everyhthing suddenly just doubled or tripled... I remember CISCO was really doing good at that time and was 1 among three biggest companies with the biggest market value (After Microsoft and GE, I believe)... Now, CISCO is really going down hill :(. RedHat had it up to aroudn $120 per share (late 1999) and it's now only worth $5.5 per share... Very sad.... :( :( . I see IBM is not doing that bad... its stock only drop by no more around 25% compared to its highest peak in the last 5 years.... Well, I am not an expert in this... Good enough I was not really greedy back in 1999 :D cheers, allan 03-15-2001, 11:18 AM Originally posted by kunal What do you guys think of it? Its kinda scary to me, even though I am not in the USA. Anyone been effected by it as yet? My portfolio has completely tanked. Our retirement fund has remained stable, which is good, but we are more conservative with that. In fact one of major investments just filed for Chapter 11 and is shutting down. We should get a nice refund from that next year :). On the other hand, business has never been busier. So many clients are looking for a hosting deal right now. <<Admin edit : even the smallest mention of your own plans isn't allowed in this forum.>> [Edited by BC on 03-15-2001 at 06:01 PM] Tim Greer 03-21-2001, 04:55 AM Anyone that invests or relies on anything at al to do with the Buzz of the Internet hype, probably deserves to fail. The Internet is good for a few things. Saving money on shopping, meeting people remotely, a bordem solver sometimes, fun, entertainment and to some people, for dating or porn. Other than shopping and *some* entertainment sites, nothing else is stable, nothing. You can't well research anything online, it's pretty useless. allan 03-21-2001, 07:16 AM Originally posted by uuallan <<Admin edit : even the smallest mention of your own plans isn't allowed in this forum.>> [Edited by BC on 03-15-2001 at 06:01 PM] Mea Culpa BC, sorry about that :bawling: BC 03-21-2001, 06:50 PM :smash: You're forgiven. |
