View Full Version : Acquiring a Company (Billing Transfer)

Hi,

I need some assistance regarding the process of acquiring another hosting company. What should I do about the Paypal account that is already setup in the previous owner's name?

Am I allowed to simply change the banking information to my own?

I am fairly certain that you cannot transfer a Paypal account to another user. So, I doubt that is allowed.

Thus, should I just remove the hosting company's billing address (email) from their account, and add it to my own Paypal account as a subaccount?

The previous owner is allowing me to take control of any funds already in his Paypal account. I assume that if I must add the email to my own Paypal account as a subaccount, then I'll need to just send the money to myself, absorbing the Paypal fees. Is that a correct assumption?

As you can tell, I'm a bit lost. If anyone has done this before, I'd appreciate a little nudge in the right direction :)

You can't transfer a Paypal account ownership. You also can't add an email address to your Paypal account that has ever been used with another Paypal account.

So, you need to replace the old company's paypal email address with your own in the billing system, so that all new payments go to you. Subscription payments in the old Paypal account must be cancelled and customers need to be told to set up a new one for the new Paypal account.

Yes, to transfer whatever monies are in the old Paypal account - you would need to send it over to your own Paypal account.

- Or withdraw the money into a bank account, the fees are less.
- Or use the funds to pay your bills :)

Another thing you can do is, send the funds, close the account, wait the amount of time to setup a new account, or just use another account with the same domain name, it is fairly simple to setup a new account under your name.

If you're going to send the funds to your Paypal account, I'd suggest using Paypal's Mass-Pay feature. It will cost you a flat $1 fee to send the funds over.
Cheapest alternative outside of sending it to your bank account.
