I have two domains in which my host was renewing for me under his acct at 1and1. He left the company and still had ownership of my domains. I tried to contact him and nothing. I tried 1and1 for some help and nothing.

A week or so later after emailing 1and1 I got a reply from a Joy Logenberger of 1and1:

Thank you for contacting us.

The current account holder of the domains is willing to give ownership
of them to you. Do you want to open up an account with us and move the
domains into it? You can easily do this at our order site 1and1.com. We
will help you transfer these domains where ever you wish.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yes I did have more questions. As too how I could transfer them to GoDaddy, this was my email to them:

I would like to transfer them to godaddy. I have other domains there, and would like to put them there. How would I go about transfering, thank you. The domains are Fused-Emotions.com and Fused-Emotions.net Could you please tell me how to go about this so I can transfer them to Godaddy where I have my other domain. Thank you.

There reply;

Thank you for contacting us.

You would need to contact GoDaddy to initiate the transfer. The domains
are unlocked and able to be
transfered.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

I then emailed them asking if I would need transfer codes? 2 days later nothing, I said I initiatied the transfer with GoDaddy like they had suggested but transfer codes were needed. Still nothing. I call support and they cannot help me. They say oh we need to send this to transfers (BUT THEY DO NOT LET YOU TALK TO TRANSFERS Dept.)

They said they were pulled from the previous acct holder (my old host who left), and put in a temporary account (so then I assume now 1and1 has full control over my .com and .net domains, which makes me feel NOT GOOD). AND they are ready to be transfered. If they are ready why dont they transfer them? Why dont they give me the transfer codes? OR accress to the temp acct so I can transfer them myself?

I fear 1and1 are just holding my domains hostage in attempt to get money out of me. I fear that I will lose them because of this.

STAY AWAY from 1and1. If your host offers to renew domains for you, DO NOT do it. They can be the nicest people, but you never know one day they can leave and you'll be in trouble. Even when the person says they want to give them back to you, 1and1 seems they will do whatever NOT to give them to you.

I will continue to update this thread with my situation and let everyone here know the outcome, however I doubt anything they do now will make up for their lack of help.

Surprisingly 1and1 seems to want to assist you with this. You need to take them up on their offer to open up a new acct, push the domains to that new account and then from their to get your transfer EPP codes. I highly doubt after that first email that they are trying to scam you. Did this person name Joy give a personal email address to reply to?

Hello, thank you for the reply. No she did not give me a personal email. Ive not heard from her since that email. She did state that they would help transfer to ANYWHERE I wanted to. It seems though they do not want to.

How long ago did you reply to the email?

Hello, thanks again for the replies.

Well after I sent them an email letting them know I would be talking about my experience so far and posting the emails, a day later I received a email from the Legal Dept. at 1and1. with the authorization codes. No longer the Transfer Dept. but the Legal Dept. was now emailing me.

I immediately jumped onto my account at GoDaddy and began the transfer... or so I thought I was going to.

Now I needed Transaction and Security ID's for the domains that would be sent to... yep 1and1.

So I emailed back to the legal dept. and asked if they knew who (email of person GoDaddy sent the codes too) the email belonged to, and if I could get those codes.

To my surprise within 5-10minutes I was forwarded the emails with the codes.

Transfer Dept was terribly slow, but that I could have dealt with if they just communicated better. Tech Support over the phone, or through email was just bad. You would sit and not know what was going on, where the domains where, what one was suppose to do.

So wether it was just time that had to go naturally, or they took my last email to heart about posting my emails, the Legal Dept sure got back to me quickly and with the information I needed.

All in all I think it was just a huge hassle. Lessoned learned on my part, never let anyone renew your domains for you (this came about as I had no credit card, I do now though, so problem solved).

And 1and1 just does not have good customer support communication. The legal Dept perhaps, but then again it is the Legal Dept. I thanked the lady from the Legal Dept. and she was very nice. But as I said, they need better communication and costumer service skills.

Now I believe everything is done, except waiting for 1and1 to release them. I entered all the codes and everything, so I hope that, that is the end of this.
