Hi

I hope someone can help or at least point me in the right direction of help...

I am not new to the internet as I used it all the time, but have decided after all these years to create my own web site, I want to start up my own business and want a web site to go with it..

So far I've created and registered my domain name and have payed for a web hosting...all worked out ok and working fine...

What I need to do now is create my web page/s within my web site, this is where I draw a blank!!!!!!

I obviously need some sort of program download in which to do this but what where how and why??

If anybody can help that would be very good of you..

Cheers Matt

Hello

If your new to building webpages / uploading them. Maybe you should ask your host do they provide a website builder application, as this maybe easier for you to build a website online and click save/publish without the need of purchasing design software.

You can go for content managers such as Joomla, phpNuke for designing websites.

Hi!

If your host doesn't offer a sitebuilder, you'd be looking for the following applications: Microsoft Expressions, Microsoft Frontpage (older), Adobe Dreamweaver, and a few others. Also, you may want to hit up your local bookstore and get some HTML/XHTML/CSS books. These would all be needed if you wish to code your site yourself. You can also do a template which is does a lot of the hard work for you.

Finally, you could also pay someone to design it for you.

Hope this helps!

This looks like a web design issue, so thread moved.

I agree that going with a CMS, while it may be a bit of a steep learning curve, should provide you with a sound foundation for your site. While it's good to master the basics of HTML, CSS etc, it's equally important for you to focus on the things you're already good at. Thus, buying/using a template might not be a bad idea.

Joomla is your best option

No, honestly I do not think Joomla is the right CMS for a beginner. Personally I prefer WordPress - yes, it's a blog software but it had revolved and it makes perfect sense for a newbie in website hosting (user friendly).

More over in term of SEO concerns, WordPress's URL is much cleaner than Joomla's long ugly URL.

WordPress' super easy installation makes it great for newbies. Also if you have any CMS software that your hosting provider can install for you with a one click install, that would be ideal for you. Many have the popular blog software set up like that.

Dreamweaver i think would be the easiest but it's not the cheapest on the market.

For building from scratch Dreamweaver is the best IMO. Add Stylizer for CSS development and you've got a great package.

I highly recommend Stylizer. It saved my bacon on my last project and is the best tool out there that I know of for developing with and fine tuning CSS. Try out their evaluation version and you will be hooked.

I think the best help, if you are new to websites and HTML.. is to open Frontpage, great for starters, and any information you type into there, you can click the HTML tab in the bottom and learn all the html codes on how exactly you want ur page to look..

If you are really new to website building, then I would advise you to use a cms such as joomla. If you want to make your own unique website then go for photoshop or any other graphic software. But to learn these applications, you will need to search for many tutorials. :)
