Friends,

Well, I'm amazed. 100 servers sold in three weeks! The purpose of this thread is to address previously asked questions, making your decision to pick up some of these servers even easier. I'll keep it short and sweet - the deals are STILL selling fast, and I'm working to keep the supply ample to cover any needs you might have.

Like before, order from the link corresponding to the bandwidth commit you want, then email me the following information:

1. Your nick on WHT.
2. The name used to place your order.
3. Which HDD config you want.
4. Which OS option you want.
5. Which control panel option you want.

I will then invoice you for the proper amount, and following payment, your server will be setup promptly!

I'll be around for 10 hours today, answering questions and processing orders!

Bandwidth is completely dedicated - no shared garbage!

any harpertown instead?

ONLY the specs mentioned are available, as they are racked and ready to rock. They can push 1gbps easily, and some special port-channeled servers of this exact build are pushing 1.8-2gbps while staying completely stable.

I'd be more than happy to set you up with one so you can see how fast they are. :)

Wow - real nice offer you got here.

Would we be able to install our own cPanel license if ordered? The price on your license is pretty high, considering we can get externals for under $40.

Yes you can. However, please note that you the 4 IP configuration is static and cannot be changed. I know this has been a setback for some VPS hosting companies, and I don't want you to get something you won't be able to use.

For most people, 4 IP's is more than enough, but I just don't want anyone to feel misled. :-)

>All it means is that you're not capped, and you can realize the full growth of your traffic, but it can incur overages if you don't watch your usage, and upgrade your commitment as needed. %95 means the top %5 of your usage is free.

i still dont get it sorry costa, please explain with example thanks.
so the server can upload up to what mbps per second?

%95th Percentile Burstable Billing -

1. Your port speed is uncapped, thus your server can burst up to 1gbps.

2. You only pay for %95 of your usage, per mbps, instead of %100. This keeps occasional traffic spikes from raising your bill too much.

3. If you see you're going over your commitment, you need to call me to have it raised.

If you read this, and the WHOLE wiki article you'll get it. :)

If you still don't, just get unmetered.

sc_freak
06-24-2008, 04:21 PM
vidan, just keep in mind that billing by 95th percentile can incur a HUGE overage bill if you're not careful, especially when the server is connected to a gbit port.

vidan
06-24-2008, 04:48 PM
okay so unmetered is enough, thanks mr sc. best part on burstable is uncapped speed right?

the top 5% peak speed on a month is not charge, but the 95% charge.
and how to count the additional charge?

for example i order 25mbps billing, how to count the additional charge? thanks for info and help =)

1 gbit can be a huge con if your server get ddos attacked. Possible to change the port to 100mbps?

Since we ordered 150 of each config, getting the 2x 500GB config makes sense if you want space over speed, and the 2x750GB config is sold out. :)

Sir,

The offer is good until the last server is sold, and yes, you may submit the order forms as many time as you like. Many people are submitting 2-4 at a time, to snatch these up before they run out.

costa, I would like to know when my tickets are going to have a response, and resolution.

The server is slow like its on 5 mbit port(I'm unable to push more than 500 KB/s in any direction.) I haven't had any response on ticket 777751 since last 2 days, and as this is weekend I don't expect a response now.

alphared claim to say the servers are on 1 Gbit port, but they're not. I haven't been able to push more than 80 mbit/s(yes, I was able to do this for a file within their own network). But again, I require transfer speed which is acceptable(5 mbit on 1 Gbit is?). Even my DSL is faster than this :p

sc_freak
06-28-2008, 03:33 PM
is that with one transfer thread or multiple thread? I wouldn't be surprised if you get 500KB/s with 1 single thread to be honest. Seems to be upstream issue, which Alphared can't do much about.

I've tried it from multiple locations, but results are same.

I'm downloading at 1000 KB/s with single connection from my DSL, and I'm bursting at 2600 KB/s with multiple connections.

I've used my other server for this speed test as well, but it doesn't seem to transfer at more than 5-10 mbps when the server should transfer at least at 25 mbps even if the server is capped, as thats what I've bought. Nevertheless, I didn't request a cap, so I should be able to utilize the line speed.

I feel that transferring at 0.5% of what my server is connected to is a network issue with the server.

Although, this wouldn't have been issue if the networking department had handled this correct. Now, its been 3 days for the ticket awaiting a reply from staff.

Before making complaints here, please consider the following:

1. There are numerous factors which contribute to overall transfer speeds, some of which are under our direct control, some of which are not.

2. Our networking department is always extremely busy, and there are numerous instances where they will not be able to respond to customer requests immediately.

3. If you are experiencing this type of issue, it is incorrect to first attribute it to our network. First, before such conclusions can be drawn, hardware and software analysis is needed to determine if there are any local anomalies causing or contributing to slow transfer speeds.

4. If a ticket is taking an extended amount of time to be responded to, please contact Ayanna Ford. She is our Technical Support Manager, and will coordinate any needed efforts to help resolve any matter at hand. She can be reached at 713-739-0415 x2006, or at ayanna@alphared.com

Please PM me with your client ID number, so I can personally help expedite the resolution of this matter.

I've tested the testfile from the alphared "Transit Providers" page (premium).

Server to Server transfer and only 400-750 Kb/s. But the servers from where i have tested the transfer from are located in germany, so it's a long distance. But from other datacenters (chicago for example) i get a lot more speed.

Ping is 200 ms.

Update:

I have tested the download again, 14 times simultaneous. Every download got ~600 Kb/s. The total download was ~70 - 80 MBit / second.

So, I think there is a connection limit, that allows one connection to use ~600 KB/s.

For me, it's ok.

I posted this here because your networking department was unable to respond in a timely manner. I never asked for immediate response, did I?
I would never say its your network, but since I've been without any response, it is possible that this is network issue.

So, you're trying to say if the support team is busy, we should expect a response after waiting for few days---may be a week?

All I want is a resolution or a satisfactory response through the ticket.
Also, I know there are various factors which have impact on transfer issues, but can you justify 5 mbps transfer speed over 1000 mbps port...

The limitation you're seeing is your own connection to the Internet. I just downloaded a file a few times from one of my new servers and I'm averaging around 1.25MB/s. This is about 10Mbit and is right around what my Internet connection can do, a 6Mbit Comcast connection with Speedburst (or whatever they call it). Like I said earlier, server-to-server I was getting 10-15 MB/s pretty consistently, which is 80-120Mbit, i.e. right around 100mbps as advertised for a single connection.

You can get bursting above 100mbps when there are multiple connections. For a while I had two connections going and when I checked the bandwidth graphs later, the server was bursting up to 200mbps. Had there been a lot of connections I'm sure it would burst even higher. In fact the only thing I'm worried about is that this thing is going to be bursting too much and then I'll be stuck with a bandwidth bill at the end of the month.

Congrats to everyone who got in on this server special, because you got an amazing deal. Thanks Costa.
