I'm coming from using plesk to a cpanel shared hosting account. I'm used to having direct control over my dns entries with plesk but all I seem to have in cpanel is the addon domain management. It's a huge step down in terms of flexibility. Is there a better way of doing this that I'm missing? My host also has reseller accounts and I believe you get WHM with that. Does that have the control I'm used to? Thanks for any help.

Yes, WHM is a reseller management tool, so you do have domain management tools. You can go over to cPanel.net and check out their demo.

*If* your host gives their resellers DNS access ;) then yes, you will have full zonefile access and control for the sites on your reseller account (in WHM).

That's not all, you have control over your MX too, but yes not complete control over DNS zone, for that you need WHM access.

This has been resolved by upgrading my package with my provider, Hawkhost, whom I can't say enough good things about.

Just a little background for those interested, I recently signed up with them for a shared account only to find out that cpanel didn't have the control/access I was looking for. This was my fault for not trying out the demo as noted above and having some expectations from a prior plesk hosting account. Hawkhost has been very helpful and fast to answer all of my support tickets and got the upgrade done without a hitch. Awesome service so far. Thanks Tony.

Yeah the DNS management is one thing cPanel is lacking from the user perspective. I imagine the reasoning is most users should not be modifying their dns zones.
