They have plenty of competition, look at cPanel, DirectAdmin, all direct competitors.

WHMCS, ClientExec, both competitors.

Parallels bought SWsoft. I think they are most well known at the moment for Plesk and Virtuozzo. At least, when you mention parallels or SWsoft, that's the two products I think of.

Like Cody said though, there is still a lot of competition against them.

What do you mean by "controller companies"?

I believe the OP is referring to "web host controller" or "control panel" companies.

Best regards,

Parallels bought SWsoft.

Parallels never bought SWSoft. SWSoft changes its name to Parallels.

Parallels bought SWsoft.

Our understanding is that SWsoft merely rebranded themselves and changed their name. In our discussions with their sales reps for Ensim (now Parallels Pro), the rebranding was a marketing decision.

It would be humorous though if, after buying all these panels, SWsoft in turn was bought out...

All the best,

David

SWsoft bought Parallels a few years ago and rebranded to Parallels because of its name in the Mac virtualization world (parallels for mac) - popular with the mac world and pretty well known.

Indeed they are most known for Virtuozzo and Plesk in this industry.

I was assuming the same , but just wanted to clarify from the OP what the initial question was specifically asking?

Yep!

It would be really humorous if cPanel bought SWsoft!!?

So what would be the name of the control panel then?

Yes, SWsoft itself re-branded to Parallels.

There are few good control panels in his sleeve. Swsoft, HELM, Ensim are few. Definitely they will bring a good brand name to the control panels. Plesk itself is very good. What I came to notice is they are not changing look and feel of any control panels. They are just integrating the features of all control panels.

Parallels (or Swsoft) also bought H-sphere, a dual platform web hosting control panel. I think they are trying to monopolize the industry!

Sure enough...Parallels Acquires Positive Software (http://www.parallels.com/en/psoft)

I doubt they will buy Cpanel, well hopefully they don't as then they will own the two control panels with the major percentage of the Market Share, which will result in increase in Price, as no competitors, well where still have Direct Admin I suppose.

I don't think legally they could. There are laws against this which prevent a company from gaining to much of a monopoly. Not that cPanel would even sell in the first place...

Ahh :). I got it backwards. I knew there was an acquisition somewhere.

and why are they being allowed to buy up all the controller companies? They probably make buyout propositions that the competitors can't refuse. :)

There are laws against this which prevent a company from gaining to much of a monopoly.Laws are one thing. Their application another. It takes years to identify a monopoly and act against it. In the mean time, much of the damage is already done.

yup and private companies fall under the radar much more often, especially in niche areas like hosting

its not like hostgator was buying up all the competitors

this is an industry only type situation...

helm just got acquired and of course, prices will go UP

good for them!

bad for us :(
