Make sure you do your homework. Research all the options including your costs and commitments.
I suggest going with a plan that allows you to have control over your sites and give your customers some degree of control. Look around for a Hosting Company that has Ensim Private Servers with WEBppliance. This will give you all the features that the big boys have at a reasonable price and total control.
Again the most important thing is your homework. Don't get bit, at least too hard ;)
if youre new to hosting and not too familiar with linux, go with a dedicated raq server. you can find great ones at http://www.4webspace.com - do a search for them here and you will find a lot of good comments on them.

Start with any good reseller plan from any reliable company. Once you are confident get a dediacted server. Don't over commit yourself in starting. FYI: Some of the companies don't mind taking direct support request from their reseller clients.
Let me remind you :) DONT' FORGET YOUR HOMEWORK :)

ummm... I'd hate to say this, but I really and truly wish you good luck, because you are going to need all the luck you can get - I don't even want to start and think about it -
Hey, If you look around webhostingtalk.com, you can find some really good deals on dedicated servers and reselling. Maybe you should start to look around for those deals. We started into the web hosting biz at about $500.00/month, which included $200.00 dedicated server, $100.00 for support issues, and $200.00 for advertising. This is the bare minimum, but hey, it will work out. I also suggest that you get listed on places like hostsearch.com, webhosters.com, hostindex.com and other web hosting directories. They are really good and bring in alot of traffic. Well, good luck.

I suggest you to save your money, and nerves, and buy a good reseller account for the quick start. This also will guard you from the headache with billing, system administration, et cetera... And always good luck to you!
