View Full Version : Ok, enough of hostpacket.net...anything comparable?

Ok I've had enough of hostpacket.net now...after all that downtime my site is down again. Their "live" help was supposedly online yet when i sent a request it was sent to a "we're not here message".

I need something that is going to be up over 60% of the time (well 60% of the time I want it to be up, the thing is ALWAYS going down in busines hours).

On top of that they are too quick to get their backs up instead of help or provide information.

I like teir reseller account: http://www.hostpacket.net/comparisonchart.php

I don't suppose there is anything similar? I have 3-5 domains that I want to keep on one hosted account which is why i liked it.

If you're un-satisfied with their level of service, I have no clue of why you wish to remain a client of theirs.

Many web hosts these days offer multiple domain hosting.

Also, 60% uptime? You would want it up alot more than that. :)

Huh? I never said i wanted to remain a client of theirs, that is why I'm posting here

I am saying, is there anything out there similar to their reseller acount?

And finally, I KNOW I want it up more than 60%, I'm just saying that is what it feels like with them and that is why I need to move...

halldorr, same thing happened to me. My site went down, tried to get hold of support via PHP live chat, and I got the "away" notice too while I thought it says right at the start that someone is online.

I'm looking for other hosts now.

Yeah it's just down far too often...what is it with hosts sheesh

I have nothing against hostpacket, but this is a general advise, probably, you'll have to pay more, as Deb said in another thread

your payments help to cover the cost of support, hardware, sales, software, etc etc etc..

Yeah, I think we were down for an hour and 20. Their LiveChat is only from 8am-12am EST, or something like that. So, I'm not sure.

I got this response from Kevin when I emailed him about this:

The httpd prcoess is automatically killed diue to extremely serverload by it, we're working on it.

Has this happened every Tuesday? I think it has for the two weeks I've been with them. *LoL*

Anyway, I'm leaning towards Infobeen.com (http://www.infobeen.com), because the CEO was talking to me for awhile, explaining that they've been there for 3 years and stuff.

Looks like I totally misunderstood your post. :)

Well, what is your budget, halldorr? I mean, what is the maximum you'd spend on an account with similar features to HostPacket?

I would say more like 1 month :P, at least with that domain. Pretty odd too that they use zoneedit on their nameservers.

domain: infobeen.com
nserver: ns1.zoneedit.com 207.228.252.101
nserver: ns3.zoneedit.com 209.61.140.1

My friend gave me this link to look for hosting as well:
http://www.100best-free-web-space.com/

iPowerWeb has been up since 1998, and Infinology has this crazy plan, available until Sunday.

Any recommendations on the ones there? Perhaps I overlooked something. Thanks!

i use ipowerweb... i'm kinda POed at their 'support'... really slow. It took them forever to answer a question about my domain.
All in all, it's an ok host, uptime is great, etc.. but they're lackin' in their service dept. But when my year's up, i'll be finding a new host

btvillarin

Sheesh, forget that site. All the reviews prove the ratings wrong. :(

At least you didn't sign up w/ someone and totally regret it. I do, I wish I had done my homework before deciding on a host. You're doing ok :)

this is horrible... i can't stand this.

i never should have moved to hostpacket.

it's not that my website is popular or anything... but all my email is forwarded through my domain... so no email for me. which is bad.

I am sure if you post in the request forum you will find lots of hosts that have packages comparable to that.

Here is a suggestion for you tho. Once you make your short list use the search feature to search the board for feedback on them, also search the posters name so you can get an idea of who you will be dealing with, and last but no least do a Google search to see if others in other places have posted feed back on the host, it is amazing what you will find on Google.

This is unacceptable. My Ip address/domain is redirected to a different site at hostpacket. Every day there is a technical problem with hostpacket. Who can offer hostpacket prices with real world uptime? Please suggest hosts with comparable hosting plans. Thanks.

well, since its already been mentioned here once before in this thread id say Dot5Hosting is a pretty good choice, I signed up with them not so long ago and service has been pretty good.

As im impartial on here because im a mod I dont like mentioning/suggesting people/companies, but if it helps these people seem to be able to fulfil the requirements people have been mentioning here.

Thanks epolady. :D

I'm leaning towards dot5hosting or Tera-byte for sure now. I can't recall searching and seeing anything bad about them here...

Also, if you have a domain and you're sick of propagation, check out DynDNS. Seriously, a friend told me about how you can basically have one-minute propagation, and he was totally right. I was so stoked, because I had no downtime switching from one host to another. Anyways, you'll need to get the Custom DynDNS plan, and that costs a donation for $30/domain for life. I think it's worth it if you want to keep your online presence known. ;)
http://www.dyndns.org/

Whoever recommended EyeOnSite was awesome, if you saw my Website monitoring thread. It's really precise, and it just logged that we were basically down for 5 hours and 54 minutes (5:54). WOW. Anyone else in their first 30-days? :D

btvillarin
08-28-2002, 10:28 AM
Nevermind that 6 hours. *LOL* It could've been around 39 minutes, which is what Uptime (http://uptime.alal.com/uptime/) site monitoring emailed me. BTW, I think they are the best one, checking at 15 minute intervals - for free!

Anyway, just wanted to clarify that it wasn't down for that long. :D

checked Dot5Hosting that you suggested. They give less space, less bandwidth, less mysql databases, no private nameservers.
So not really comparable to hostpacket

is anybody hosted with hostpacket still down right now? i've been down all morning... but some other sites that i know are with hostpacket are up.

btvillarin
08-28-2002, 10:49 AM
Well, for the price, I think at least you'd be up more.

Also, ChickenFart, if they changed IP on you, try going to command prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns

Delete Temp Internet Files, too. I'm up (URL below).

btvillarin:

i think this is a dns issue. compare this dig info from your domain with mine:

;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
btvillarin.com. 14400 IN NS ns3.hostpacket.net.
btvillarin.com. 14400 IN NS ns1.hostpacket.net.
btvillarin.com. 14400 IN NS ns2.hostpacket.net.

;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
flarf.com. 14400 IN NS ns1.hostpacket.net.
flarf.com. 14400 IN NS ns2.hostpacket.net.

as per the instructions from hostpacket, i have my domain pointing to ns1 and ns2.

even though ns1 and ns2 have the same IP address, ns2 is not resolving right now, as well as ns5. however, ns3, and ns4 are responding to my pings.

another person i know who is hosted on the same server (same IP address) shows up with 3 dns entries with a dig as well... but the domain is set up exactly the same as mine with 2 entries at the registrar.

i'm probably wrong, but thems is my findings.

ChickenFart, I was down for a long time as well, I am pretty sure I'll be moving to infodoma.com.

Nice packages, features I am looking for not to mention that they have excellent support from what I can see.

I'll probably move over this week sometime...

btvillarin
08-28-2002, 11:21 AM
Well, I have the following nameservers at my registrar:

NS1.MYDYNDNS.ORG
NS2.MYDYNDNS.ORG
NS3.MYDYNDNS.ORG
NS4.MYDYNDNS.ORG
NS5.MYDYNDNS.ORG

Then, at DynDNS, I basically just point it to the IP I'm located at. My TTL is also set to 14400, but if my site goes down or I need to change the IP address, I can change it to 60 to update the DNS to the new IP.

Man, that's weird...
