Who in your opinion is the best hosting provider under US$7.00/month?

5+ pop3 accounts, 100MB/2GB or better, Front Page.

please let me know:
1. why you like them
2. the length of time you have been associated with them
3. any drawbacks.

Please do NOT respond with a company for whom you work or for whom you would have a conflict of interest.

Thanks,

Charles

Since I dont want to spam my company, I will recommend one of the most popular on this entire board, Dixiesys.

http://dixiesys.com

Last time I checked you get 200 MB web space and 3 gig's of transfer for $3.95 per month.

Yes, Dixiesys was my second choice. very very close. In the end I went with a little less space for a buck less per month. Both theprimehost and Gary at Dixiesys struck me a being very professional and as having good business sence. They offer a low margin service to people with low-end needs but make sure they profit from every transaction. They don't make any wild claims or offer service they cannot deliver.

Woah, I just checked my mail, I am all set up.

Well i like Hostnexus as a budget hosting provider.

I have been with around 5-6 months
Great support

Well its not really a drawback but i should say that thye are located in Australia and some times when there is a time zone prob...

THere are plenty more available like dot5, interland OR one of the leading ones today are ICDSOFT etc :)

Nothing wrong with Australia....

well, I am all set up and loaded. Darrell of theprimehost has been great! very helpful and responsive. I can't wait to start loading pictures of my goofy friends. The system is Cobalt based so that has taken some getting used to. Luckily it's pretty user-friendly and intuitive.

I REALLY need to reduce the size of the picture on the splash screen. It is taking too long to load. But I have to keep my girls looking good...

Charles,
I've also got an ensim 3.1 server if you would rather be hosted on that as opposed to the Cobalt. Let me know what you need.

Best Regards,
-Darrell

No way, I'm enjoying the learning experience!

But enough with the love-fest ;) Let's just say you've earned your three bucks THIS month...

Back to the original topic, everyone please feel free to keep posting their experiences with budget hosting. I really think that it IS possible to offer low-margin hosting as long as you pay attention to your business and don't grow to fast or too slow. There IS a limit to how much one can do. I cannot over-stress the importance of a good business plan and of extrapolating it to account for future growth.

I am in the market for another host and dixiesys has struck me as having a great reputation around here. I think I might sign up. although theprimehost has great prices too...it's so hard to decide. and you can't go by uptime because up until 2 months ago CW had 99.98% uptime! lol

EDITED:
Also, I have 3 domains I would like to point to the same account. One I would like to point to the main site, and 2 others to 2 seperate subdomains. Is that possible with either dixiesys or theprimehost?

I agree with ECP. Dixiesys is one of the greatest hosts around.

In regards to Slayerboy's question, generally speaking we only host one domain name per account (with the exception of our reseller plans that start at $10.00/mo for 10 domains).

However, we can setup sub domains for you and have your registrar forward your other existing domains to the corresponding sub domains.

I'm interested. What's your email and I'll send you something that might be a fair customization at/around the same price that I'm thinking about (EDITED: {if possible}). I am completely serious about this. BUT only if you promise not to pull the same crap that CW did. I am especially interested in your uptime. Is it possible for me to upgrade my account if I choose to be hosted by you? If so, I have plans of possible reselling or business stuff if that's possible. Let me know.

There are a few ways to point multiple domains at one account, using Enom as a registrar you can just use their DNS and do a URL forward of the domain to a subdirectory of the main account, frankly there's not much we can do about it, typically we'll allow 1 or 2 domain redirects per account just to keep the natives happy. Though if you want a full fledged account for each domain then a reseller plan or multiple smaller plans are the way to go.

Thanks to everyone for the nice words :)

Would I still be able to do that with Namecheap? I should have thought about doing that...directing to a subdirectory....geez what a ***** I am...LOL...just pass by the easiest option!

{EDITED: nevermind...i found that out myself...yes I can....via URL forwarding...LOL DUH!}

Slayerboy,
We've been around for over a year and a half now. We are debt free and have no intention of going anywhere anytime soon. I have pm'ed my contact email address to you.

In regards to upgrading and or reselling, yes, we allow both. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Ok I have been reading this forum for a long time but finally registered because a friend (who is NOT a customer just considering it) told me about Dixiesys which I am considering too.
So I search this forum and I find nothing but praise on Dixiesys.
This is the second day that the links on their site for Tech Support Helpdesk & Customer Forums lead me to error pages, hope this is temporary because I am in need of a reliable host:bawling:
:D

Gary (Dixisys) had something listed on his site about moving servers to a newer faster data center...That was probably the issue. Sign up with Dixie, you wont go wrong :D :agree:

We had to do some emergency upgrades to our Plesk systems thanks to that SSL vulnerability we had a few servers being used for DDOS zombies :(

Hopefully everything is 100% now (crossing fingers).

Oh everyone should check your /tmp directories for .bugtraq.c and .bugtraq (notice the . in the name, that means they're hidden so do an ls -a *) that was our culprit. It also makes httpd unreliable to restart as it binds up port 443 and makes apache fail on restarts with an unable to bind to port 443.

I have submitted two minor support tickets in the past 48 hours, and both of them were answered within 2 hours

Nothing but good words about dixiesys
