I cannot seem to find a straight answer on exactly what licenses we require from our SPLA to provide hosted Exchange services for our clients.

We will be starting off with 2 servers, essentially frontend and backend.

My assumption is that we will need these 2 SALs per user.

Windows Svr Std All Lng Lic/SA Pack MVL SAL
Hosted Exchange Std SAL All Lng Lic/SA Pack MVL SAL

That assumption is correct. You need 1 SAL for the Server and 1 for the Hosted Exchange Lic.

Benefit from the SAL for the server is you would not need another SAL for that user for other servers. (Example is if you are then allowing Terminal Server or Sharepoint services. However you would need the Sharepoint and TS SAL)
