View Full Version : iWeb - I'm disappointed [RESOLVED]
microg 06-16-2008, 08:52 PM Hi all,
Just wanted to share my dismay about iWeb's reseller program. After checking their deal out I must say I was impressed. They had everything we needed for our customers - sql server express for free, asp server ... good price. Unfortunately it appears that SQL Server Express is only in their front page offer but not in reality. As a substitute I was offered only ONE SQL Server database. How on earth would I handle it? should I tell my clients to use prefixes in their tables and not to pay attention to another customers' tables? That's just ridiculous.
It took me more than 2 days to get this information straight. Their turnaround is more or less 24 hours per email - if you keep pushing for a follow up.
I'm still looking for a reseller solution with sql server access - doesn't have to be instance per client, one db per client would be totally fine. If anybody can recommend that, I'd be grateful.
Thanks,
Michal Rogozinski
SteadyTy 06-16-2008, 09:18 PM Hey,
Sorry to hear that - as I have mentioned in a previous review on iWeb, you need to make sure that their plans match your needs. They have outlines on their package details which are stated on their site.
I haven't had the same problem, response times were generally all good. My account manager failed to return a few of my phone calls, but overall the expierence with them wasn't that bad.
microg 06-16-2008, 09:22 PM Hey,
Sorry to hear that - as I have mentioned in a previous review on iWeb, you need to make sure that their plans match your needs. They have outlines on their package details which are stated on their site.
Unfortunately those outlines are not true. It clearly says that SQL Server Express is available for "Reseller All Inclusive MULTI RESOURCES" but the matter of fact is that it is not!
SteadyTy 06-16-2008, 09:40 PM I guess your right -
here is my live chat with them as of 5 mins ago.
Tyler: Reseller All Inclusive
You are now speaking with Badreddine Daife of iWeb-En.
Tyler: Hello
Badreddine Daife: Hi and welcome to iWeb's live chat service !
In order for me to serve you better, would it be possible to tell me if you are an existing customer here at iWeb ?
The email address associated with your account being the easiest way for me to identify you, you can simply confirm if it is the address you have put when you initiated the chat session.
Tyler: No - i am not a customer
Badreddine Daife: how may i help you?
Tyler: I am looking to know if your reseller packages include unlimited mysql express databases?
Tyler: So that each one of my clients can use their own database, without conflicting one another.
Badreddine Daife: yes of course
Badreddine Daife: the limit is your disk space
Badreddine Daife: you can find more details at http://iweb.com/web-hosting/resellers/
Apparently they do offer what they state - have you opened a support ticket?
microg 06-16-2008, 11:46 PM Here's email I got back from support when I was trying to find SQL SErver Express in my panel:
Greetings,
Unfortunately SQL Server Express is not yet offered on our shared
hosting platform. The specifications of that component are still being
setup by our sysadmin team.

Looks like they are taking about shared hosting, not reseller hosting. May be some communication error, or just a misread on my part.
Cheers,
Ty
microg 06-17-2008, 12:23 AM I'd like to think that this was communication error, but unfortunately there was no misunderstanding.
Hi,
I have verified with my supervisor and unfortunately it won't be
possible to offer 1 SQL Standard database per client in your account.
It's not the answer I would have like to give you but, if you really need those SQL Express database you have no other options than go in the client Hub, http://hub.iweb.com and use the 30 day moneyback garantee.
The SQL Express is not available yet.
Regards,
Patrick Lepage, Technical support level 2 iWeb
SteadyTy 06-17-2008, 12:32 AM Funny - I just talked to the sales person on live support, as quoted, and you can see she is telling me otherwise? Sales Gimics?
microg 06-17-2008, 12:54 AM Well ... I would gladly stay with them if they offered SQL Server Express ... This is the main reason why I'm backing out using my money back guarantee, and this was actually advised by Level 2 support as quoted above. When you talk to the representative, ask them to tell you where in the panel you can manage the sql server express ... you'll probably get directed to level 2 support :)
webuff 06-17-2008, 06:00 AM Anyway, hope it's back to its normal state
atchoooo 06-17-2008, 10:19 AM We are sorry for this error on our site. It was really scheduled to be offered but servers couldn't be ready on time because of the high demand that generated our new site since march. Now we need to prioritize things a bit and the availability of SQL Server Express for free with the accounts has been delayed. Those specs are scheduled to be removed from the web site today or tomorrow.
If you are interested and because of the disappointment you lived through and if you are able to manage it, I might be able to provide you with a little clearance dedicated server with SQL Express for free. That way, you would be able to use your shared account at iWeb and the SQL Express databases on the dedicated server. You might also want to offer SQL Express databases to customers who would come to this thread disappointed like you because they wanted that service. If you are interested please PM me so we can arrange this.

Understandable, however why would your live chat sales representatives as of yesterday inform us that we would get what the site was promising.
Cheers,
Ty

You asked for "mysql express" .... here is the quote from your chat transcript :
Tyler: I am looking to know if your reseller packages include unlimited mysql express databases?
All packages include unlimited "Mysql databases". MySQL express does not exist. So I guess the chat representative thought you were refering to MySQL not SQL Server Express.

SteadyTy 06-17-2008, 11:01 AM My typo - do apologize.
microg 06-18-2008, 10:48 PM Hi again,
I would like to thank Martin for helping me and for offering a good solution. Not only did he resolve my problem but also speed things up. I'm definitely staying with iWeb!
Cheers,
