View Full Version : DNS Update, How long?

Hi All,

Curious, we have a few websites on one server. I have changed the IP Addresses which NS1 and NS2 were binded to, so all domains using ns1.ourdomain.com and ns2.ourdomain.com would point to our new server.

How long before this process completes? I have found if i'm just updating nameservers it is rather quick, a few hours, however changing the IP Addresses to which the name servers are binded seems to take a while.

Is there a way around this for the future to make it quicker?

Regards,

.Joel

Changing NS records can take some time. The rule of thumb is 24-48 hours for full propagation of the new name servers. If you had just changed an A record, then it should change within the TTL time but changing the name server IP will take a bit longer.

Did you just change the A records for the nameservers? Or did you also change the IPs in the registry? You have to change the registry values, too.
