View Full Version : whmcs limitation questions
stjoenetworks 06-16-2008, 01:39 PM I was notified today by a collegue that they are going to be converting from AWBS (they only use the domain edition) to whmcs as it does all the domain management that awbs does and it integrates into enom.
Is this right? Can whmcs handle all domain management such as:
registering nameservers
updating namervers
URL Redirect
URL Frame
Email forwarding
A Record Updates
Is anyone using whmcs to do this???
I am very interested to know.
[OutHOST] Mark 06-16-2008, 02:24 PM if you are currently with awbs and enom then keep it that way, in my honest opinion and from experience, awbs handles a lot better and is more feature rich with enom, becuase they have the proper API integrated that no other billing suite has
stjoenetworks 06-16-2008, 02:54 PM While I understand your point. My question is more along the lines of can it do what AWBS does?
Is it comparable or not?
darkpsy 06-16-2008, 03:10 PM We use WHMCS in our company and enjoy it very much. I don't have much experience with enom, but the DirectI integration is perfect for our needs.
Mansoor 06-16-2008, 03:25 PM The WHMCS works well with both Enom and Directi. However, it can only handle 'updating name servers' remotely, for other options you need to login to the registrar interface(enom/directi etc)

So what you are saying is that you can use whmcs to update the nameservers on a domain at enom but you can't use it to do URL Frame, URL Forwarding, registering new namservers, updating nameservers, update admin/contact info on a domain...etc
Is that what you are saying? Can that be confirmed by others as well?
acebeat 06-17-2008, 05:51 AM mansoor incorrect. it supports all those things. check out their docs: http://wiki.whmcs.com/Enom
stjoenetworks 06-17-2008, 05:04 PM If this is the case then why can I not see it in their demo?
The demo doesn't have the dns management console where you can set a records, mx records, etc.
Is ANYONE using this software to handle this type of setup?
mrzippy 06-18-2008, 12:50 PM I use AWBS, too. As far as I am aware, it is currently the only software in the market that offers the full eNom domain management capability you have described. (Most likely because it was first created as a domain management software, and then they added hosting management later...)
To directly answer your question:
No, at this point in time, according to their own website, the WHMCS software does *not* have the same eNom domain name management features found in AWBS.

Our documentation has a page for each registrar module showing what functionality is supported for each. Enoms page can be found @ http://wiki.whmcs.com/Enom
To confirm, from a WHMCS system, a client that has a domain registered with you, and that you have registered at Enom, can do the following:
view the current nameservers
change the nameservers their domain points to
view & change the lock status of their domain
tell you if they want to auto renew it or not
request the epp code for their domain
view and change WHOIS information
register, modify and delete private/custom nameservers
set email forwarding
perform dns record management (including url redirects, a records, etc...)
The demo won't show these options as it is not hooked up to a live enom account and doesn't have a domain registered at enom to work with but we offer a free trial so that you can download and install WHMCS on your website to try out the full functionality with your own account.
I believe we offer largely the same functionality AWBS does in the domains management area.

1. Does WHMCS allow ID Protect purchase and renewals?
2. Does WHMCS allow customer A to do an "internal push" of a domain to Customer B?
3. Does WHMCS allow you to create "sub-users" that have access to only specific portion(s) of the domain management system, on a per-domain basis, for each account? For example, with AWBS you can create a sub-user for Account 1 that has access to only "domain1.com" and "domain2.com" in the account, and can edit only contact info and nameservers, etc Or another sub-user for the same account that has access to only "domain3.com" and can renew the domain, but not manage it. Or another sub-account user for the same account that can access "domain1.com" and "domain4.com" as well as the helpdesk and whois info, etc...
If WHMCS has those three features, then yes, I believe it is equal to AWBS in domain management.
The demo won't show these options as it is not hooked up to a live enom account and doesn't have a domain registered at enom to work...
I think screenshots would work for this, then. A free trial is nice, but there are surely lots of folks who would rather see right off the bat if it has a certain required feature before going to the time/expense/effort of setting up and configuring a trial, just to see if that required feature is present.
:)
stjoenetworks 06-19-2008, 06:26 PM You bring up some excellent points. I had completely forgotten about the ID Protect and Pushing a domain from one user to another.
Can WHMCS do that?
I too would like to see some screenshots proving that it can do EASILY the things I have outlined before spending time setting up trials and etc. Especially since it seems according to other threads on WHMCS support is not readily and easily available to those who are NOT paid users.
Matt? Can you address these things?
WHMCS-Matt 06-20-2008, 05:55 AM 1. Yes, ID Protection can be offered as an addon for domains, in addition to DNS Management and Email Forwarding which can also be offered as paid addons
2. Transfers of ownership for domains between clients must be performed by an admin
3. Multiple logins to a single client account are not currently possible
I'll see what we can do re the screenshots.
