View Full Version : *cough* Another nightmare with Tim @ PD

Seems like there's already a few threads on tim, well I guess it won't hurt if i add one. I'm guessing everyone is sick of people bellyaching about tim but **** this really pisses me off. My site with Tim - which happens to be a site where people talk business about domains, which in fact is growing every single day, with over 1k members (in 6 months of existance) of people talking about domain names, apparently went down I'd guestimate 16 hours ago. And it hasn't been up since, I just knew of this downtime a few hours ago, and I'm not sure what the hell is wrong, but I'm really ****ing pissed. It might not be Tim on this one but the only person I can be pissed at is Tim on this since I have nobody else to be pissed at. I've already talked to Tim about this, but ****, I can't even get a backup of my db to change hosts if I wanted to. It's just... gone. :bawling:

Hello,

Very sad. Im really sorry to hear that. Is your DB really gone ? What will happen to all your hard workings, getting back the reputation ? You will loose your 1K members though !

Sorry to hear of your problems, dgessler. BUT, if your site was really as important as you say, common sense would stand to reason that you would have local backups of your database and not leave this function in the hands of someone else.

I'm not having a go at you. I'm just saying you should always have a local backup of your databases off your PC onto an external storage device, such as a zip disk etc.

Again, sorry to hear of your troubles. At least when you get up and running again, folks already know about the forum etc...

BTW, your site is still down from my end of the jungle...

Yeah I will consider this my learning experience Bob. One of the reasons I'm taking this so hardly is tons of people have e-mailed me already and someone even called my home while I was away (parents answered heh) about my site. I havn't really been running a site like this before and therefore don't really have much experience with this sort of stuff, true I should from now on keep backups of the db that would definately be something I learned today, heh. And believe me Bob, talk to some of my members about the downtime, there's quite a few that pretty much live there (kind of like some people on WHT I assume). As I said it was really picking up fast in the past month or so, I even got it a 6,560 rankign at Alexa ( http://www.alexa.com/data/details?amzn_id=&url=www.dnforum.com - yes, thank you, thank you ;) ).

What seems to be the problem, Dan? Surely someone knows something about why your site disappeared.

And, Bob speaks wise words. I'm sure you probably already figured out to be keeping a backup locally should you get your site back up. ;)

With the obvious age of Tim and attitude about what he has not followed trhough with it's obvious he wouldn't give a snot about your plight, nor have taken steps for fail safe backup.

Hello,
I have spoke with Dan about this before... We're working on the issue as he knows that. He has ask me and I have answered. We're sponsoring his site and he is a customer which is treated with respect and as a customer. I have told him we're working on it.... He is aware of it..

Maybe its not me to say anything, since I'm sort of the *ahem* new kid on the block. But by TimPD response and general attitude it does seem as he is making a conscious effort to be nice and change (for the better I hope, and I hope it is also not temporary). But from reading the last thread with the record number of posts, and some other threads I have come across lately it does seem as TimPD is trying to make an effort.

Being a former kid who has made some bad choices in the past:) I must give him the benefit of the doubt. Please TimPD suprise us, and try to make the best of this second chance since you were not banned or kicked from the boards. It will take time to repair the damage, but hopefully you can do it. It takes a big man to understand he made a mistake, admit it (don't know if he's done this), and grow from it.

But if he every falls back to his old ways I for one will be disappointed and feel even more decieved.

Good Luck TimPD and I hope you get all your problems corrected and move on.

Still down, I just find it amazing how a server can be down for 24+ hours, and the host isn't giving me any details, I mean WTF is wrong. An hour of downtime, ****, an entore day? The moment my site comes back online, an hour fom now, a week from now I'm seriously making changes on how I run my site. I'm sure this has to do with someone being LAZY.

Looks like a DNS thing here as neither NS is responding. So I would think that once the DNS issue gets fixed your site should be ok and without loss on your DB.. ill cross my fingers for you.. You should ask Timmy to setup a sql dump for you and set it up on your end to download the dump atleast weekly as if it were to really get screwed up you would be SOL..

Dan,

Sorry to hear about this mess. :-(

I hope you do get your site back up and running. Maybe post a request here for someone to pick up hosting of your site. It sounds like you need a new one. :-)

I'm sure you would find plenty of hosts who would host it for low or no cost for a sponsorship.

Take care,

Brian

Dan,

Your site was great and I wish you luck in getting it back up and running.

Assie Bob may have sounded like he was kicking you when you're down, but he wasn't. His advice was excellent and sometimes we learn best right after a disappointment.

I hope the forum comes back and makes a grand showing!

Didn't I tell you all along? I knew it when I saw the DNS used.

The funny part is that 2 months ago with the CPanel crisis I had Fused.net hosted there with TimPD - the server is hosted in Vortech's NOC here in Orlando. When that crap happened back in July, Brad (Vortech) was the one that helped me retrieve my database, by allowing me to FTP to the server he had shut down because of TimPD not paying what was due.

I strongly believe that Brad will help you back up your database, he's a great guy.

When/if you get your DB back, I will personally buy you a dedicated server for your forum. I know how good it was there and was growing fast, it will be a shame to see it go to waste.

Well ya know at first I felt bad for timmy because I thought that ya know maybe he made a few mistakes. Everyone does. However after seeing all these things about him, and seeing a few repsonses from him that were a little less then courteous I'd have to say he seems to be a scam artist.

Thread Closed, Vortech has been kind enough to backup the database, good work Vortech.

Id imagine what you have done isnt even the responsibility of your business, some plus points for your business there.

Good luck for the future dgessler :)
