NameCheap.com has a domain Marketpalce service that I listed some domains for sale on. I have sold in Excess of $1000.00 worth. Namecheap makes the sale, collets the funds, transfers the domains and then after several days makes the funds available to be transfered to your PayPal account.

It is now over 4 months and I have yet to recieve my funds. I recieved an e-mail on 6/7/08 as follows:

"The registrar where these domains were transferred to is not cooperating with us even though their clients are turkish thieves that use stolen credit cards. That being said, we would like to settle this with you even though we are at a loss fincially as well due to the chargebacks for these funds. Can we agree on a fair price to pay you?

I was not defrauded, NameCheap was. I was considering agreeing to a settlement offfer and wasseeking legal advice before responding, when I got another email on 6/10 stating : "We are changing the status of this ticket to 'Closed' as we have not received a response from you in 72 hours."

I was flabergasted by the e-mail. They have not returned my e-mails or given me a phone call yet today about it. I posted on their forum asking other customers if they had any similar problems. Now they have taken the posting down and BANNED me from the forum.

I have not had any situations like this and and aking others it they have experienced this from Name Cheap or other Registrars. Does anyone have any advice? Name Cheap does not make a phone number available to call them and they have not answered my e-mails today.

Can anyboy give me any advice?

Something doesn't sound right. When you buy a domain on Namecheap's Marketplace don't they just push it to your Namecheap account? Or do they immediately allow it to be transfered to another registrar?

That is correct, but evidently the person they sold it to transfered it away from their Name Cheap account to their account at another registrar.

Every now and then you can read such namecheap marketplace stories here. I can't believe that namecheap still hands over the whole risk of there marketplace to there customers and didn't introduced some more security.

Hi Hambling,

One thread that mentions namecheap trying to resolve such an issue with another one of their clients is here : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=686914&highlight=namecheap+marketplace

I wouldn't read too much into the ticket being closed, if it is an automated support system (many of them out there) it was probably an autoclosure.

Stating that namecheap were defrauded rather than you, doesnt really help anyone, in this day and age, there is a lot of fraud out there, and everyone in one way or another pays the price.

As for banning you from the namecheap forum, I find that a little harsh, but maybe your post broke their (namecheap) rules, don't know therefore wont comment further on it.

However, posting on here, enetwork (I think that correct, no doubt he will comment if not) will respond as he normally does in any comments re: namecheap.

But, if the gaining registrar is being a total a*s, it might just take a little time to get it sorted out. The fact Ricahrd offered a possible resolution shows some willingness to get it sorted as quickly as possible.

Hello Hambling,

I have been handling your ticket and I just looked at it now and the most recent one, the one I responded to you was not closed by us manually. All tickets that are not replied to by clients are automatically closed after 72 hrs. This is done to keep things organized.

I also apologize for the delay, we've been waiting for a reply from the guys at name.com over this and nothing. I have even gotten the VP at enom to contact their ceo directly and they haven't bothered to even give any sort of reply. They prefer to let these turkish hackers get away with this I guess. All it would take is a simple investigation on their part and it would probably save them some credit card fraud as well. I was hoping to personally discuss this with them at the ICANN meetings at the end of next week as it is a courtesy that could and should extend both ways.

I will reply to you in that ticket with the solution.

Romy, we have already changed the way our marketplace works. All new sales have a 48 hr screening period where we check them for fraud before they are approved and the domains are transferred over. This happened before that was implemented.

Richard and I have exchanged e-mails over this and it looks like we will be able to work things out, although I have not yet received my funds. The ticket is, indeed still open as Richard stated above.

I wanted to put out here publically where we stood so as to acknowledge the efforts currently being made by Richard Kirkendall and NameCheap.com regarding this issue. Richard stated he did not reply earlier as he was away from the office earlier in the week.

To all: Namecheap has now funded these sales funds.

I like what Richard said above about the 48 hour hold. I told him that Go Daddy puts a 60 hold on allowing a transfer out of the registrae for all domain ownership changes, which gives the registrar more control for and fraudulent sales or chargebacks. I sugested that he consider the same for NameCheap's protection.

Thanks for other's comments.
