i figure i had to ask this question if you were to choose a hosting company will it be because of the following :

1. price

2. Support

3. location

4. server speed

5. how many client the host has

6. control panel

please answer this thread for me i need to know , im tired of seeing people sayin unlimited bandwidth and space and also im tired of client asking me for it because rackshack offer it

As for as I know, RackShack does not offer unlimited bandwidth or space on any of their dedicated servers.

Of what's mentioned in your list, I'd take all of them into consideration when choosing a new host. However, price, support, and speed are the most important factors for me.

Speed. Reliability.

You forgot IMHO the most important thing: Reliability. Price wouldn't even be an issue if the hosting service is down all the time or slow. I would have to agree with JTY. Most definitely speed and reliability.

The 3 main things I look into are the Control Panel. I'm a big Cpanel Addict and I would choose one host over another for that. The second biggest thing is Support. I've gone to way too many hosts who can't offer reliable support. And last is price.

For me it's:

Price, support, control panel and i would say i would rather go for a host in the US since UK hosts charge 5 times as much for some odd reason.
Server speed well it depends what i have, if it's just a small thing then i don't bother about that.

yeh uptime is ok but wasnt one of my main things due to the fact that things happen sometime

oh ok:o In that case assuming the network is good I would have to say price would have to be the next most important. Although sometimes you have to question if a price seems to cheap. As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for"

Thank you Mr. G for that statment thank you -- clap clap clap ;)
i believe if the price is so cheap how can they afford tech support people or even if they run the company by themselve how can they afford to pay the Noc to keep the network up and take care of there everyday needs

How about reputation?

Gemini - I think a lot of people forget about all of the costs involved with running a data center or just don't know. People have become blindsided by bandwidth prices falling. There is a heck of a lot more involved then bandwidth. As you said support, hardware upgrades, security technicians, monitoring software, billing support. The list could go on and on. It makes you wonder how long your less expensive providers can go on selling something that costs a dime for a nickel. Time will tell :)

reputation plays a part but not really --what if a new company just came out ; then they wont have a reputation / nor can you find them in forum search as wht or what if they charge real cheap prices but give poor support then they will have a rep heheh

The last I checked, they had an unmetered dedicated servers on Cogent connectivity but unmetered is a completely different thing to unlimited and makes more sense :)

When I'm looking for a host, price is usually the least of my worries. The important things to me are network reliabilty and server configurations. What can I say, I'm a sucker for SCSI hard disks... heh.
Good support it nice as well, but I'm not too dependant on it, so it wouldn't be a deciding factor for me.
