View Full Version : Looking for host: managed VPS,semi dedicated,&dedicated
| Hi all,
I am in dire need of some help. Here's what I am looking for:
1. A host for my ecommerce site who provides sort of a step up program for their clients. I want someone who offers shared hosting, VPS, semi-dedicated(SDX) and finally dedicated.
2. I want to be able to move seamlessly through these steps as I grow, if necessary. I do not want someone that is going to punish me for exceeding any pre set limitations. Instead, I want someone who is more of a hosting partner in that they will look after my needs and let me know if I need to change my hosting package.
3. I would prefer that they manage my site once it reaches the point where I would need my own panel to work it.
4. I want someone that does not oversell and is true to their word about uptime, space, customer support, etc.....
5. Lastly, a place that is reasonable in cost.
Can any of you recommend who I should potentially use OR not use? |
utropicmedia-karl 06-04-2008, 01:11 PM Look for a host that caters to businesses as they are more likely to have the experience you need to ensure smooth migrations.
Also, what is "reasonable" cost? Anything involving quality hardware and network and managed services is going to be high compared to a budget service.

WCTisha 06-04-2008, 01:50 PM | moving from shared-vps-dedicated is easy, but the problem is finding quality on all, as there are others that are good in shared, but not in vps nor in dedicated.. so If I were you, concentrate first on your current requirement and make the right choice and if you are satisfied then they have vps and dedicated, then it's good for you.... |

I disagree with that statement, as there are many pitfalls that can add time to the migration between the mentioned platforms. Unless you're aware of the possible issues then things are easy until something goes wrong.

HostColor 06-04-2008, 02:18 PM I believe you need to do a few things:
- to review "Offers" section
- to research the WHT forums for web host that forum members find as reliable ones
- to check whether they suit your needs
- to contact each of them and to send questions about your projects
- to compare results |
My thanks to everyone so far. This is one tricky road isn't it. It's difficult to find a range of companies to check out as there don't seem to be a whole lot of them that encompass every facet of hosting. I checked the offers section and WHT forums already but the posts and offers seem to cover only parts of the type of host company I'm looking for. Then I thought I could just post my needs and have hosts come to me but that service only applies to people that are looking for just one type of hosting in particular. That's why I'm kind of stuck for options. I did however find just one so far, Jaguar PC. I think they might be okay, I haven't found any really damaging negative feedback. Most of what I have found seems to be fairly positive. Are any of you familiar with them? |
