We've added one line to the Custom User Titles, Locations, Profiles, and Signatures: (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/rules.php#Custom) section.

Signatures:
Are a benefit extended to WHT members who have made 10 helpful posts and completed 7 days of registration.

Good call, but how do you distinguish between what is considered unhelpful and helpful. Is it an automated process which will allow new users to have sigs or is it a manual thing for the mods to check the posts are actually helpful? Or is it simply depending on the community to report unhelpful posts?

It's a manual mod thing usually, just like for adcvertising rights. If the member is trying to be helpful, no problem, if they're just posting "thanks for the tip" or "I agree with the above post", problem. :wht:

So after 7 days and 10 posts, a mod will check all 10 posts to make sure they were helpful and then activate the privilege of using sigs?

No, please forgive the confusion. If there are no complaints or issues noticed, after they meet the criteria it's automatically done.

The confusion is of course forgiven, but not 100% sure I follow.
Is it a case of it's done automaticaly , unless manual intervention is needed because of issues or complaints ?

But yes, I'm also glad to see it, only hope I've posted 10 helpful posts ;)

Yes.

The word "helpful" is included so that new members won't think that it's OK to spam their way to a promotion.

Seriously, I didn't think it would cause so much confusion. Maybe we should drop it.

We use

If you choose to make meaningless posts to circumvent this restriction, your account will be disabled.

for some other similar rules. Could work for this one too?

Yes.

I'll cast my vote for that.

Or disable custom titles and signatures for everyone *evil grin* :)

I hereby retract your post based on my higher postcount and earlier join date ;) j/k

I'm waiting for the day when the IRS tax rules are easier to read than the 100 pages of WHT rules which are constantly updated. :D

Maybe something like:

Any abuse or missuse will result in you being sacrificed
to [I]TARANIS ? _:angry:_

or is that to subtle for some.

I'd say it's probably a good thing. Keep it!

Do you delete "thanks for the tip" style posts though?
