Last I knew, Counter-strike 1.6 could only handle 32 users. So what do you mean 100?

32 slots is the max you can host for CS.

That's what I thought. :)

unless he means three instances of a cs server with 32 slots in each....
its abit hard to define at the moment with such vage information... is there going to be any mods installed? also what tickrate do you and/or the clients want?
and also just a thing to note...
unless your hosting a gaming event I cant see each instance being 32/32 three times connected at the same time.
servers are rarely fully every single minute of every single day ;)
also a guide can be found below about setting one up http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=343796 was written a while ago(NOT BY ME)
wont tell you about specs and that though for that we need more information.

He means he needs a box that can host multiple CS servers for a total of 100 slots.
I think he is giong to need a Dual dual core Xeons or dual Quads which would be better. Then around 6GB of RAM would do (DDR 800). 4GB may run ok if it is 1.6 and not source.
One HDD would be good SAS if you can afford it but Enterprise SATA II drives would run well also. Do not get a desktop drive for a server that has 100 slots running or it will not last long.
RAID 0 would be great if you can afford it again but not needed but would help performance .
If you keep 60 slots on average during a 24 hour period your BW bill might be expensive so keep that in mind when pricing your servers out. I would do some research here or ask you provider if you have one how much BW your server uses a month or day or maybe they have a graph for you.
Hope this helps.

What the.. 2x Dual Core Xeons [or] 2x Quad Xeons? For 100 slots!? Of CS or CS:S!? Are you crazy!?
The game is hardly intensive! It doesn't need a high-performance hard drive either.. A nice Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 or something with 4GB RAM with say a decent XXXgb SATA2 hard drive be perfectly fine...

I'm afraid I disagree with you on nearly every point made. A dual core system will be fine, quad core if budget allows. 4GB of memory will be ample, 6 GB will be overkill for 100 slots. SATA drives work fine, SAS would hardly benefit a game on the HL1 engine. And considering the amount of bandwidth the average Counter Strike server pushes, I would say he doesn't need to worry about that too much (depending on how much his host provides). Unless, of course, they are full 24/7, than he may need to keep an eye on it.
Having been hosting Counter Strike servers since 2003, I've never seen 100 slots require the machine you suggested.

Yikes.. Simple question = Simple answer.. and I believe it was answered at post #2...
Wickedshark.. I have no idea what your rambling on about but my advise would be stick to what you have knowledge of which clearly isn't anything remotely to do with this topic.
Carry on! :)

would have to argee defcon I beleive it was answered at post 2, yours and mine posts kinda answered it fully until the actual thread starter can post back. other posts on here are just making the thread go round in circles. and yep god knows what wickedshark as thinking he was hosting but it certainly wasnt 1.6 servers lol. no offense.
I used to run a 1.6 cs server (there not as poopular anymore) used to be a 32 player slot on 1 dedicated box for a client it ran for 3-6 days at 32 players back in the day when it was very popular and it used 400mb to 3gb bandwidth. so your be supprised dout your need that much.
as I said just depends on downloads and stuff aswell that u have on the server.
