View Full Version : Thinking of going for hostrocket.com - tell me about them.
theplonk 03-13-2001, 02:54 PM Hi. I'm thinking of going for Hostrocket.com . I knew they were pretty good back then, but it's been a long time, and I just want to find out if they're still good.
I'm a complete newbie to PHP and MySQL, and most of my experience came from ColdFusion. I see the Hostrocket has the phpmyadmin . Am I correct to say that this one is similar to the one provided by http://www.nusphere.com ?
Well, thanks in advance btw. ;)
Actually, they are excellent. You will not have any problems by going with them.
Everytime I have a problem, they fix it for me right away! Recommended.
gthorley 03-14-2001, 01:12 AM Well I for one was totally turned off by their lack of response to questions I sent them. Lack of response in none received.
At their website I clicked on an url to send an email to sales. Received an auto response telling me to open a ticket. Did that and used the topic sales from their list and submitted a few questions. No answer ever received. The fact that they even don't answer e-mails and have an url at the bottom of their support page peeved me a bit. How is one to know this probably was meant to be removed but someone forgot it. I for one believe support tickets should be used for existing customers seeking help not potential customers
Unfortunately I have read lots of posts both good and bad about this company. One of the major concerns I read was about lack of getting back and follow up but everyone said it was because they were going through a difficult time switching networks. I thought I would give them a shot but I wasn't about to chase them for a reply and signed up elsewhere. My feeling is there are plenty of hosts around that give fast responses and why take a chance on service not being there when you need it.
I suggest you do a search and read about them. In fact I would do it for anyone you consider hosting with.
klisis 03-14-2001, 01:30 AM I have heard very good comments about them. There was a little misunderstanding when they changed pricing but it seems it went well.
gnorthey 03-14-2001, 02:00 AM I was previously a customer with HostRocket and I think their support is excellent. Although sometimes they had gotten behind due to the server upgrades the majorityu of the time responses were fast, accurate and helpful.
The only reason I left is because of server problems which annoyed me, however, it is my understanding that their servers are fine now, and before I left they had upgraded to new servers. I am not compatible with the VDI servers, hae 'em as far as mail is concerned, maybe I will go back and use the for HTTP server only, they had very good HTTP servers as far as I was concerned.

gnorthey, I'm curious as to what kind of mail problems you've experienced with VDI. I'm thinking of possibly going with Venturesonline.com, which I believe is VDI based. Obviously, mail is very important :)
Thanks,
hostrocket 03-14-2001, 03:01 AM I cant seem to login with my old name here? Anyways, I think the difference between the mail systems he is referring to is on VDI based systems you use 'account@domain.com' to login while with alabanza based systems you just use 'account'. This causes problems with some email clients, eudora is one I think has problems.

brendan@hostrocket.com
That is not an issue with VDI. It is with cpanel.
hostrocket 03-14-2001, 11:08 AM Hi,
Yeah, but I think its what he was referring to.. I may be wrong though.

borjong 03-15-2001, 12:02 AM Brendan,
I just solved the problem an hour ago with setting up the email in HR using eudora (I use Eudora Lite). Basically, in the POP account field, type:
username%domain.com@mail.domain.com
It works for me, and I'll post this too in HR forum.
you can also use the other format which works (1st 8 letters of the domain name followed immediately by the user name@domain.com)
i.e. email is username@testdomain.com
The login would be testdomausername@testdomain.com
