BeCkhaM,

I have a server with them, and I experienced about a 20 minute slow down with all my websites on this sever, their web page (www.fastservers.net) and their ticket page (www.ticketresponse.com). It took five minutes to download my main page of 30k, and other parts were timing out. Looks as though it working fine now.

I noticed the slowdown too, but that only lasted ~10 minutes for me.

Heh! Yeah, having your account terminated might cause problems with accessing your server :stickout

Heh, I got attacked and they said they cannot keep a server that got attacked on the network so I'm being booted out.

Was the attack your fault (did you instigate it)? If it wasn't your fault, then that's kind of a weird policy, to just terminate your server because you were the victim of an attack...

This incident was 100% related to a raging IRC war.
These things are not tolerated on our network, period.

Thankfully we were able to pinpoint this very quickly. If a particular server puts the entire datacenter at risk, as in today's example, that particular server's chances of remaining on our network are slim to none.

Ahh, figured it was something like that. So the offending server wasn't a victim, but a participant. Thanks for clearing that up! :)

Man it's great having you Powersurge people swarming this forum :D

Isildur,

Great job. I have been with some hosts where this would have gone on for hours. Thank you for taking the quick action and ensuring that your other customers servers, such as mine, were minimally impacted.

The server was shut down because we have in place a very strict policy on shell servers and IRC servers. The policy states that we hold responsible the owner of the server for all security related issues that go on with the server and if it causes any interruption in our network we have the right to terminate the account.

Allowing IRC Servers/Shell Servers onto our network has been a debate since the beginning of time, but we also stand firm that if an attack causes disruption in our network that this is not acceptable and the threat must be eliminated.

We never like terminating an account, and today the decision was very hard as it is the 1st account we have terminated under this policy in quite sometime. While we certainly do not wish to cause hard feelings, the goal of our Network Administrators is to supply the masses with a stable network.

No finger pointing or blame is taking place, a DoS attack happened, we followed through with our policy that has been in place since Day 1. It will be upheld at all costs as the majority of the other types of servers have thousands of customers that rely on a stable server and network.
