View Full Version : Is this Normal?
bigbrother2008 05-31-2008, 03:29 AM Hi,
I just wanted to share with you the biggest mistakes i made.I have bought a domain name at go daddy and all was ok, but recently after 3yrs i received an email informing me that my domain name information was illegal or not complete. I found that my phone number was missing so I correct it.What happen next? I got an email from them saying that they have taken some $9.95 from my credit card! I log on and delete all my credit card and left only a debit card which has only $1 on it. After some days i received an email saying that they have received a complain for spamming from my domain name.I informed then that it is impossible since i have no email for my domain and its not me and i offer a free url redirection services. The same day they offer me two possibility either pay a sum of $199 and this will "cover the costs of responding to or "cleaning up" the outstanding spam complaints Go Daddy has received against your domain name so far." or pay $75 administration fee and they will allow me to transfer my domain name to another registrar.
one think i cant understand is that can i am resposible if someone send spamming email and insert my domain name in the spam?
I asked then want will happen if someone sent a spamming email and insert go daddy domain name in the spam? They did not answer me.
I simply inform them that they can cancel my domain name if they want but i will not pay.
Till now i have not get any answer from them.
Me will go back to my old registrar even if the prices is a bit high.

mrzippy 05-31-2008, 11:54 AM Yes this is "normal" for GoDaddy. Their terms of service are well known to be extremely bad, and many business owners have lost their domains or had their websites effectively shut down because of this.
For example... if you have a competitor that you hate and they are registered with godaddy? You can send a few million spam emails using their domain name as the return address. Then complain to godaddy that they are sending spam.
Bingo. Your competitor will no longer have a website since Godaddy will immediately suspend the domain registration while they "investigate" the issue. (ie: Demand money from your competitor.)
We've seen this happen over and over, and your story is just another to illustrate how silly any business owner is to trust their domains with GoDaddy.
Stan Marsh 06-04-2008, 04:56 AM mrzippy just summed up what I was trying to tell this community for a few years already. Thanks, mrzippy! :wavey:
Aorozco 06-04-2008, 09:32 AM Oh Yeah !
U dont understand why many domainers have thousands each in godaddy for sell, and dont in Dynadot, in bulk prices are similar .20 cts extras for com , and a better push system.
Anyway, i understand them have for quick sells, but when renew is two days of distance, dyandot is THE option in that case.
And yes, very good description made by mrzippy.
creationmw 06-04-2008, 09:57 AM Are you saying that dynadot is more stable and more safe than GoDaddy?
Why wouldn't dynadot react the same if your competitor does the same trickery to tarnish your domain reputation?
Thanks for your information guys! I use godaddy for my domain names, but I am willing to change if it'll save me future problems.
Aorozco 06-04-2008, 12:16 PM Dynadot Have many Advantages, and dont Have Abussive TOS. Dynadot pass recently a One Milestone with a site called somethinkg similar to WikiLeaks. Seek the theme in google and answer yourself. I Think Dynadot Is Very reliable.
If you have around 80 Domains ot 500 USD yearly you wualiify to bulk price In Dynadot, and without that they have a Good prices.
The Interfase Their Have is Very Good and clear, have forum of customers, an Api available, and welll recently y begin here and namepros a Thread about Registrars :
http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/475095-what-think-about-that-registrar-evaluations.html
You can see For many of US, Dynadot is Top Notch, and prices can be better and ALWAYS better service and peace of mind vs Godaddy.com
I Put They now in my mind as the 2nd better Registrar Overall, Moniker is the Best, and the Third Reseller Club in a 3000 USD Slab.
I like GoDaddy very much. The best control panel on the planet for managing multiple domains. I know this flies in the face of most domainers thinking about their bad tos and bad checkout, but I put up with those because of their great control panel. They recently simplified their domain push. It's almost as simple as other registars now. They have also introduced Preset Profiles. Something like (but not exactly) eNom's Magic Folders, but much more reliable.
Aorozco 06-04-2008, 06:21 PM I Check Myself then when i get Other Customer Via Godaddy. I am counting days to take off the three domains i have with them ...
creationmw 06-05-2008, 08:49 AM Thanks for your input guys! Any additional ideas are welcome.

Yes it is normal for GoDaddy. No matter how much their apologists brag about having a control panel, GoDaddy is definitely one of the worst registrars in the industry, with regards to exploiting their customers. $199 to "resolve" likely-baseless complaints is a joke. And to debit your CC without prior authorization? I'm pretty sure that's illegal as well. I know you had it on file, but it was there solely for renewal/purchase fees, not for random one-time charges you didn't agree to.
If it was me who they were trying to extort money from, I'd file a chargeback for the $9-something with my CC company, file a complaint with ICANN, and tell GoDaddy to go f*ck themselves.
Aorozco 06-05-2008, 09:45 AM I think many do that exactly ... if they CC allow more than 60 days chargebacks.
