There are the common ones mentioned that I like, but one of my overall favorites is: http://www.powersurge.net

Looks like an Nvidia rip-off (their older version, that is).

Samuel

It's no rip =)

btw, I remember the old nvidia site, and it looks nothing like this one.

Why did you post that eh?

Same color scheme (gray, green) same "cutting edge" look.

Samuel
08-26-2002, 12:56 AM
I made it, nothing ripped about it =)

It went through 26 revisions, and every pixel is custom, and the entire layout is custom, css, php, everything from scratch.

Too bad, it's a registered trademark. Now you have to pay me every time you mess with your watch :D

It's similar. I've seen other sites that have a very similar logo as Site5's but in my opinion, it's not that hard to come up with something like that. I know they've had the same logo for quite some time themselves...

Well, I'll agree that it's a very nice site, but it doesn't seem that "simple" to me with all that flash work done on it.

I shan't make any comment about having swoosh'y logos :)

I don't like sites with music in them, they anoy me and take too long to download for some pointless junk sound that someone else thinks I should like because I'm visiting their site - and pixelbrick, your choice in music sucks big time :)

There is nothing worse than being in an office full of people when all of a sudden music starts blaring out - personally i just shut the site and don't go back to it.

I don't know many people that do surf with headphones on, in fact come to think of it, I don't know anyone who does. It's one of the very early rules of web design, sound is a no-no. Like most other people I just close the site and never go back, the only music I want coming from my PC is the CD I'm playing.

markcastle
08-27-2002, 06:08 AM
It's the main gripe i have with all the (otherwise) fantastic pixelbrick sites too. I don't know anyone that uses headphones.

CritticAge
08-27-2002, 06:53 AM
I personaly like all or most of the PixelBrick designs. Too the people that said said they do not like music - PixelBrick normaly makes the flash header not load...you have to click Replay.

Also, they do not really have a bad choice of music, the flash animations fit into the music.

Eg. DownTownHost - I like their design, but when the flash starts playing, there is nothing too catch your attention in the way of sound.

Well sometimes I surf with headphones, don't ask why or anything

Also, it would be best if you could choose to turn on the sound, instead of having to turn it off :)

I always surf with headphones...Well used to. At home when we used to have only one computer. I had to have headphones because it was in the kitchen where people would always be bothered by the sounds. But now at home I bought myself a computer for the room so I don't use headphones. But come to think of it I do hate when I have my music playing and some flash thing interupts it and makes a nasty mix :(

Thanks

Well that says a lot about what are considered good designs then, because if you alienate people who don't like the damn music interupting them (there are a lot) then it's obviously not a good design.

So how do you know the site has music UNTIL you visit?

Site5-Rod
09-01-2002, 07:05 AM
Yes, I designed the swoosh in like 2 minutes. But it stuck because its simple and very easy to work with in a design. Originally, I created it because it looks kinda like an "S" and kinda like a "5". That's the real idea behind it. If it resembles any other companies, its merely out of coincidence, and the fact that we really have no need for a complicated logo.

Next incarnation of our site, I promise a flash-animated rotating 3D ball of a logo. Look out.

Oh, and it will play new wave hits. Now we're talking.

Yes i think its very nice!! i like the detail you have put into the outer frame.

just 2 things i would consider doing ....
1. center the template on the page so it's not all the way over to the left for people with large screens.
2. change the color fo the cost/month to a blue to make it stand out and let people see that your rates are very reasonable!!
