What is your favorite forum software? Two categories-free and not free.

I have just installed Invision v1.0.1 and it's pretty good for free, but I really like vBulletin v2.2.6

vBulletin tried some of the free ones VB rocks

Can't wait for the new release:D

I've been using it for over 2 years now -- wouldn't want to use anything else (yes, I have tried others -- not the same)

phpbb is cool...

VB here

PHPBB has all the functionality I need and the price is right.

Invision Board for free forum software. vBulletin for non-free forum software. I've never used vBulletin but how could so many be wrong? :)

j/k, phpBB/iBF are nice too, it's just that vB is way more complete then the others .. Patiently waiting for v3.0 :)

I like modding phpBB boards and cant wait for the official portal to come out.

I'd have to say Invision Board, as well.

OK, I see a lot of votes for vBulletin,Inivision and PHPBB , I don't see any votes for XMB. Has anyone used XMB, if so, what did you think?

V3.0 will have even more features, quite a few could already be achieved by "hacking" your 2.2.x version though. Nevertheless the v3.0 release will be a great enhancement imho.

iBF / phpBB are great (free) options aswell btw, both very nice (and phpBB is even very secure) solutions if you want to run a forum on your website. Both can be adjusted to your websites' looks, very nice imho.

Didn't like XMB much, either. I love phpBB as a freebie and vBulletin can't be beat in the paid department.

I've used Burning Board and phpbb in the past. Now I have started a new forum using Invision board and thus far I like invision board out of all three.

Invision Board is the fastest forum software available and possesses most, if not all, of the features vBulletin does. :)

Completely, it's template based ... check their webpage for more info .. .it's really comprehensive

which of these free ones are least cpu extensive for servers....

I've found phpBB to be one of the best so far in terms of cpu demand... although I haven't tried Invision.

Any way you want, you can start out with simple theme changes (http://www.phpbb.com/styles/styles_demo/), premade mods (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/index.php?c=4), to totally changing the code around and creating a custom forum/portal yourself.

Goes to show that with vBulletin versus UBB, vBulletin is much better :D

OK....After reading all the suggestions and trying a few free boards, I have to say that vBulletin ROCKS!
Just installed v2.2.6 , I can't believe all the available options.
I have to add that the Invisions board isn't bad for free! :D

The latest version of vBulletin is 2.2.7, so how can you have 2.2.6..? Unless you installed it a while ago.

EDIT: I checked your board and found that you registered today. Where did you get your version of 2.2.6 from..?

It is not yet ready, but I love it's control panel and it's designer is very open to suggestions, unlike some I could mention. "It's text" will be much harder to read once you see it operating in 37 languages ;)

I have more experience with vbulletin and phpbb but all of them are cool.

When I said the text was difficult to read, I meant the font/formatting (bold), etc.

Also, I noticed that it is not free; the price is quite expensive, as well. I'd stick to vBulletin, but that's just me :)

Actualy IBF1.0.1 is faster than vB2.2.6 :D
