View Full Version : Is HostPacket.net Down?

Omar

I've tried accessing hostpacket.net and another site hosted by hostpacket, and they are not loading.

I have tried traceroutes from my home computer and from our server in Florida, I get the following error:

# /usr/sbin/traceroute hostpacket.net
traceroute: unknown host hostpacket.net

Same thing from WindowsXP:

C:\>ping hostpacket.net
Ping request could not find host hostpacket.net. Please check the name and try again.

That's from the UK

Anyone else having problems?

Hostpacket has problems with their Nameserver. They know it. Hope they are working on it and will be finding a solution soon.

What can we do as a reseller to provide better service to our clients.

I mean, what are they doing bad, that canbe improved, so that they are not that frequenlt down.

What is the difference between a super good hosting provider, that goes never down, and a reseller that has different forms of problems.

I mean: Why is hotmail always up, regardless of the million attacks, and hostpacket is down.

Regards

Hello,

Well if the hosting company who's providing you with reseller account, doesn't have an acceptable uptime which should at least be %99.5, you and other clients of yours will be hurt.
Ofcourse we they are down, your reseller account will be down as well.

Never comapre Hotmail who owns tones of servers and data centers, with HostPacket... Far too many difference between them.

check this: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnstime.ch?name=hostpacket.net&type=A

Their problem is their Nameserver. Everything else is fine. Right?

I guess email also gets lost because it can't find domains related to their name server.

Ok,

Thanks for your reply, but how can a small company ensure they have an uptime that is that high.

I known that reseller wll be down as host is down. But as we cannot control the host, how can we ensure to be up.

Can I link more than 1 server to be certain to be up, and how?

They've been down for me for over an hour now.

Apparently some people can still access one or two sites, but I have no luck accessing the same sites. :(

just wondering, how would this affect the 99.9% uptime gaurantee?

Just wondering, please don't take it the wrong way.

Being a host myself, I know it is very difficult to make gaurantees for the upstream providers.

99.9% uptime "guarantee" - hahahahah

Have a read of this http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69382 (read page 1 & 2) - all will become clear.

What kind of control panel are you running on your servers? Is named running on the same server that is down or do you do DNS on another server. I can ping your nameservers by IP so the server is up for sure but the DNS shows it down.

Have you tried running /etc/rc.d/init.d/named restart

No offence or anything but, if you don't know how to administer a server let alone setup nameservers I don't think you should be in the hosting business.

If you would like assistance please PM me.

You have to be joking right? Sydney and Perth have had different ip's for months.

Down again.

Oh, correction. MY domain is down. Looks like Host Racket cleared its own DNS issues up.

That's it. My domain is moving til you guys settle down.

Could you at least E-MAIL your clients to inform them of potential downtime, or the cause of downtime? I mean, it's totally unprofessional to leave us hanging. Don't assume each of your clients read webhostingtalk.com.

a quick read of the hostpacket forums shows they seem to be under a bit of pressure due to the recent downtime caused by dns problems. hopefully they fix the problem, for their clients sakes!

If you can't access it in a browser, it's useless. I don't know what's up -- it looks like maybe a third of the HostPacket sites are having trouble.

I get your williamgirder.com site, no worries at all [btw, interesting site there. :)]. So there's no problems with their servers etc from my end. Try tracing it and see where your problems are....

yes a traceroute would be your best option here, as I'm seeing the site just fine myself (good load time as well).

Incidently, great site. I love the odd weekend of trashy 'Z Grade' movies. :)

Thank you for checking and for the nice words, but ARGH. I want to scream. I couldn't see my site last night, and I several of my message board users reported trouble. I couldn't get to other Host Packet sites either. Too late to do a traceroute now I guess.

I'm heading back to my old host for the time being .. I've been with Host Packet two weeks and I've averaged well over two hours downtime a day since I moved. Which I need like a hole in the head. Now to weather the hell of domain dimensional shifting ... AGAIN!!!
